My crew had a fantastic weekend at the UKC Midwest Classic in Richmond, IN.

Asta earned a Group 4 under judge Karen Hynek in Friday's first show.

Saturday Asta earned a Group 2 under judge Sharon Griffin in Show 1.

She surprised me with a Reserve Best in Show under judge Kim Caines in Saturday's second show, which finished her UKC Ruby Grand Champion title not even a week after her second birthday.

On Sunday Asta won Best of Breed in both shows, giving her a half leg toward her Sapphire Grand Champion title.

Thank you to the judges who found my crazy girl in a huge lineup of quality dogs.

Miss Blaze hasn't been shown much the last year as I was giving her time to fill out and mature. A day before her second birthday she picked up her final competition win and points toward her UKC Conformation Champion title.

She came home from the ECHO Club show in Buchanan, MI with a pair of Group 4 placements under judges Sharon Griffin and Karen Cattin.

My r̶o̶t̶t̶e̶n̶ sweet Asta puppy started out 2025 as a brand new Champion that could kind of walk on a leash. We put a lot of work in this year and it paid off.

Over the course of the year she picked up Precision Coursing titles, her Grand Champion and Emerald Grand Champion titles, four Total Dog Awards (including qualifying for TDI), multiple group placements and wins, before finishing the year with her first Best in Show and ending up ranked 2nd for the breed—all before her second birthday.

This is her second year being in the Top Ten and she is a third generation Top Ten dog.

There were SO MANY Canicross teams at the Trails to Hope Turkey Trot this year. I think everyone knew my friend Lara Mahr, so her ears were probably burning all day.

We had a good start (she only swung me wide into three trees) and finish, but the in between was not our best run (I swear they added some hills since last year). We got a new PR two weeks ago and a not great time today. But it finished Drama's North American Canicross Advanced 5K Canicross Dog (ACD) and I'm happy with that. It's going to be tough leaving her home once her kids are ready to race.

Drama and I completed the Waldenwoods Turkey Trot 5K trail race on November 2nd. I placed 2nd in my age/sex and 21st overall of 61 runners. There were no human girls in the 6-10 age group, so they let Drama have her own medal as she was unofficially the fastest in that group. She was the only canine participant.

Our time was 36:24.5. This is a new PR, more than 2 minutes faster than our previous PR set back in March and over 9 minutes faster than our first running race 13 months prior. Our next goal is breaking 35 minutes and running a solid beginner time, lol.

As a special encounter, there was another runner who was originally from Finland. She saw my name on the roster and had to come find me. Drama's SISU collar made me easy to identify as a Finn.

This is how I feel about the ribbons, rosettes, plaques, trophies, coins, certificates, and mementos from my dogs. They fill up my walls and the ones that over flowed are in bins waiting to be put back up some day.

Competing with my dogs is big throughline in my life the last almost-thirty years. They remind me of friends and family, people and places, good dogs and old dogs, and good old dogs.

Like he says, maybe some day they'll end up in a landfill, but now they make me happy.

The Fall All-American Bulldog Club show was one for the history books.

Showing just one show all weekend Trek picked up the final win he needed for his Emerald Grand Champion title. As far as I know this makes him the first Catahoula with both a UKC gemstone Grand Champion conformation title and a UKC Weight Pull Grand Champion title—a designation he'd get to keep for a whopping three days until sister Drama finished her UGWPCH on Sunday. (I incorrectly dated all the photos October 12, when the ARBIS and new EGCH were from the 9th. Oops).

To the best of my knowledge Drama is the third Catahoula and the first female Catahoula to earn the UGWPCH title.

Along the way Trek picked up his 12th Total Dog award and two Most Weight Pulled Per Pound (Veteran) awards. Drama picked up her 24th Total Dog award, three MWPPV awards, and two MWPP awards. This is a nice bookend for her career—Drama finished her UGWPCH with a MWPP as she did when she finished her UWP years ago.

These accomplishments retire Drama from UKC weight pull and Trek from the UKC show ring. Each dog has one more UKC title I'd like to finish before they retire from UKC (unless, of course, we get a chance at snow points, then that's fair game).

Playing more catch up on event results for the crew.

We made an 11 state loop to hit the UKC Catahoula Owners, Breeders and Research Association National Breed Specialty in Athens, TN and the NALC-MS fall show.

On the Friday of our trip we hit the UKC National Specialty in the morning with Asta in the Grand class and Drama showing in Altered Grand. Neither of my girls won, but we enjoyed visiting with everyone.

We then got back on the road right away and hot-footed it down to Mississippi for the NALC fall show. None of the dogs were entered in Treeing in part because the drive time between the UKC show and NALC was going to cut it very close.

Drama had a bit of an off weekend and didn't have her finest bays, but big brother Trek did great and got himself a 2nd place in one-dog in a three-way tie one point behind first place. Asta's B-Bay debut got postponed due to some unforseeable circumstances, but lit up and looked good in practice. I really look forward to running her soon.

In the show ring three of the four dogs that showed (Baldr stayed home and Drama can no longer show in NALC) we came home with:

Blaze tied for 3rd in Year and Older Females (Never Had a Litter)
Strider 3rd in Year and Older Males
Trek 4th in Senior Males

We got to visit with friends and have only a couple-three minor mishaps along the way. Overall it was a good trip and the next one will hopefully be sooner rather than later.
