“We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals.” — Immanuel Kant

From everyone at HHFA (apologies we couldn't get a photo of each of our 13-person staff, but we love and appreciate them all, equally) we wish you and your beloved pets a wonderful holiday and a joyous, healthy 2026.

We are forever appreciative of your compassion to animals and your kindness and support to all of us.

You are incredible.

Merry Christmas.

You wouldn't think THIS would be a love note, would you?

But at Dr. Moore's house . . . it kind of is.

You can read about it -- and even weirder stories -- in "Don't Look in the Freezer -- the Very Strange Life of a Veterinarian's Wife," when it launches NATIONALLY on April 28, 2026.

The book is the story of Harborfront Hospital for Animals as told by the only person in a small family NOT employed in the veterinary profession.

AND mark your calendars for Saturday, May 9, and a special launch party at the clinic as we thank you (our clients and friends) for all the support of the book, the clinic, and the HHFA family throughout the years.

P.S. That's Dave, by the way. And Doc's wife, the author.

P.P.S. In answer to a few requests, while the book does not launch til late April it CAN be preordered at your favorite indie bookstore now or by following this link at Simon and Schuster:) All pre-orders do affect the trajectory of the book and are VERY appreciated.

It's hard to describe the amount of fun we had at our HHFA holiday celebration on Friday.

Our staff is absolutely amazing; kind, compassionate, funny as heck and SO willing to be silly and create wonderful memories.

They play as hard as they work. And THAT is very, very hard.

We adore each of them.

Wishing YOU all a happy season, as well.

There have been times -- only every other day or so -- in the last year when we've wondered if Tommy Pickles would EVER fulfill his contract and do the job he was HIRED to do; Chief Comforter.

Then this happened.

"He's been curled up the entire time she's been recovering from her procedure," the owner told us.

And the clinic staff breathed a sigh of relief.

Yes, it's true that the next day he got his head caught inside Dr. Emily's lunch bag, tore through the clinic then bit the hand that was trying to help him but . . . baby steps.

Gee, we hate to celebrity name drop.

But, we will. ;)

Over the years, HHFA has provided care to a number of "pets to the stars."

Years ago, we took care of a dear little St. Bernard pup who starred in a sequel to a big time movie by the name of, hmm, it was some famous composer . . .

And the dog relative of a renowned children's book author who wrote a Christmas story about a train and a little boy and Santa and, a bell, visited the clinic as well.

There is an entire wall in the clinic devoted to photos of the scores of canine officers who have received care at HHFA -- many of them have stuffed toys and trading cards.

And now . . . there is Gerti.

Gerti is the charming and much beloved rescue pup of USA Today bestselling author Wade Rouse and his husband Gary Edwards and sees Dr. Moore for all her dental care.

She's now been immortalized in a line of prints and greeting cards just in time for this holiday -- we think the artist did a fantastic job capturing her sweet disposition.

There's actually an entire, fun, line of holiday products.

Wade and Gary do SO much to support rescue animals and have been owned by many throughout the years. Any support is appreciated.

UPDATE: We've been told . . . Kai has found a wonderful home.:)

Life’s persistent and most urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others? -- Dr. Martin Luther King

When Dr. Moore attended the Pound Buddies Open House in October, he took note of this dear guy -- Kai -- who was suffering from entropion, a painful condition in which the lower eyelid turns inward and the lashes constantly rub against the eye.

"Please bring him in, we can help," he told the staff and volunteers.

This is Kai today, following surgery by the incredibly talented (and kind) Dr. Emily AmRhein.

The Pound Buddies/HHFA connection has been strong for years and it will continue through the holiday season and beyond.

Beginning this week, you can honor a special pet you love/have loved with a donation at the clinic. Your buddy's name will be added to our holiday stocking display and your donations will benefit both Pound Buddies and Heaven Can Wait.

(And stay tuned for news of more charitable donations to our local pet causes when "Don't Look in the Freezer -- The Very Strange Life of a Veterinarian's Wife-- launches NATIONALLY this spring; distributed by Simon and Schuster. It's the funny, poignant backstory of HHFA, Dr. Moore and his family and our incredible staff.)

When you come to HHFA and are greeted by our team of smiling, compassionate faces, here is what you may not know:

Virtually every staff member at HHFA is fighting an unseen battle. Health concerns, parents who are ill, grief and loss . . . we are a microcosm of society and our staff members do an AMAZING job setting aside their problems in an attempt to help our clients with their concerns.

We want to tell you about just one of them today; our always smiling, always kind, receptionist Michelle who -- just yesterday -- celebrated her 30th birthday.

As a child, Michelle was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Her health struggles have been immense and a few weeks ago this ambassador to help others battling the same disease posed with the supplies she used in the last year to keep herself healthy.

Her overwhelming attitude is one of joy and gratitude because there are so many reasons to be thankful. She married a wonderful man in August and they have a lovely pet. She and her sister have a close, loving relationship with their parents and many, many friends.

AND very soon she will become a first-time aunt. We know she will do that job with the same love and kindness she shows every day to your pets, her coworkers and our clients at HHFA.

Here's to another trip around the sun, Michelle. No wonder it shines so brightly.

Harry Harborfront and his head elf did a fantastic job greeting pets and people during Small Business Saturday.

A few of our friends today were camera shy, but everyone walked away with treats.

And Harry let no moment go unused -- filling in at the front desk when he wasn't needed as a greeter. (We told him not to call us, we will call him.)

P.S. Thank you to our Veterinary Assistant Harley and her son Silas for their hard work. They brought a lot of smiles and happiness on a bleak, snowy Saturday.
