🚨🐱 FLORIDA CAT OWNERS: PLEASE READ! 🐱🚨
We’re seeing increased concern about feline panleukopenia (feline parvovirus) throughout Florida, and this is one virus we REALLY don’t want your cat to meet.
Panleukopenia is extremely contagious and potentially deadly, especially in kittens and unvaccinated cats. Recent outbreaks across Florida have affected shelters, rescues, kittens — and even adult cats. 💔
And here’s the scary part: this virus is incredibly hardy. It can be carried into the environment on contaminated surfaces, clothing, shoes, food bowls, litter boxes and other objects, meaning even indoor-only cats aren’t completely risk-free.
Common signs include:
🐾 Lethargy and weakness
🐾 Loss of appetite
🐾 Vomiting
🐾 Diarrhea
🐾 Dehydration
🐾 Fever
🐾 Severe decreases in white blood cells
🐾 In severe cases, sudden death
🛡️ THE GOOD NEWS: WE CAN PREVENT IT.
The FVRCP vaccine protects against feline panleukopenia and is considered a core vaccination for cats. Current feline vaccination guidelines emphasize tailoring vaccination schedules to each cat’s age, lifestyle and individual risk factors.
If your cat is:
🐱 A kitten who hasn’t completed their vaccine series
🐱 An adult whose vaccines are overdue
🐱 A recently adopted or rescued cat with an unknown vaccine history
🐱 An indoor-only cat who hasn’t been vaccinated
Now is a great time to make sure they’re protected.
Please don’t wait until your cat is sick to think about prevention. With panleukopenia, prevention truly can be lifesaving. ❤️
