🐾 Training Tip Tuesday: Teach a Hand Target

Teaching your dog to touch your palm with their nose is a simple skill that can improve focus, recall, positioning, and calm redirection.

Start close, mark the touch with “Yes,” reward, and gradually practice around distractions.

Save this tip and try it with your dog this week!

🎓🐾 Congratulations, Maki!

Maki graduated from our 10-Day Day School Puppy Foundation Course! She built a strong foundation in leash manners, sit, down, stay, recall, place, “leave it,” door manners, calm greetings, and impulse control around real-world distractions.

She was an amazing student, and we’re grateful to her parents Daneyshka Quiñones and AJ for trusting us with her training!

Maki will be missed, but we look forward to seeing her and her family again. Until then, she’ll be showing off her new skills and impressing everyone she meets! 🐶👏 I had to use her Day 1 Photo cause I love her long hair!! 😂

⏳ COUNTDOWN TO VETOBERFEST: ONLY 8 DAYS TO GO! ⏳

Mark your calendars! The Hernando Heroes Fair (Vetoberfest) is officially just over a week away on Saturday, October 3rd, and we cannot wait to see our community come together.

Before the gates open, the Hernando County Veteran Services Office wants to extend a massive, heartfelt thank you to an extraordinary leader and force in our community Mary Johnson and the entire Vet Fest Hernando County team.

Pulling together an event of this scale is no small feat, and the truth is simple: without Mary and her incredible team, this event would not be possible.

From organizing meaningful traditions like the Purple Heart Dinner to championing Vetoberfest, this team is nothing short of amazing. Their tireless dedication, heart, and relentless work behind the scenes touch the lives of veterans and military families across Hernando County every single day.

On behalf of the Hernando County Veteran Services Office, and on behalf of every veteran who calls this county home: Thank you, Mary, and thank you to your outstanding team. We are deeply grateful for your leadership, your friendship, and your enduring service to those who served.

Come out next Saturday, October 3rd, to celebrate our community, support our local resources, and experience everything this team has built for us.

See you all in 8 days! 🇺🇸🤝

Training Tip Tuesday 🐾

Does your dog jump up to greet guests? Start with someone familiar, reward all four paws on the floor, and let the greeting happen when your dog is calm.

Small practice sessions can make a big difference. What does your dog do when visitors arrive?
