Winter is almost here in Central FL, which means it's tree planting season. What are you putting in the ground this year?

I have guavas and a few more figs, but I'm hesitant to add more because it looks like we'll be moving in five years. (Just in time for my fruit trees to start producing, of course....)

Seeing these bulbils hanging were some of the most beautiful things in the world to me. Some of you have been waiting for me to send these out for longer than a year. The wait is over!! As for everyone else who wants to buy some, I'm afraid I won't have more available until next fall!

The food potential in these little things is so huge for central FL. My family isn't a big fan of name (the white or yellow diascorea alata), but ube is a chef's kiss, simply cooked and salted. And the nice thing is, you can leave it in the ground until you need it - no need to harvest them all at once.

They just keep multiplying and getting bigger if you leave them until next season. One plant can produce more than twenty pounds of food. As far as calorie dense survival food, ube (purple name) is where it's at. Last pic was harvested off a single plant after two years.

I bought two dwarf gold papaya plants from Lowe's almost five years ago. They've frozen down a few times and came back multi-branched. This one plant has nine branches, six of which are producing. What's even more awesome is how accessible they are. As of now, the plants aren't over my head (though they can get about eight-nine ft tall in a good year). Pretty amazing.

Hello Central FL! How did you fare??

We had a few knocked over bananas and trees, but nothing catastrophic, thank God.

I did notice that my variegated lemon broke a few branches, but we have quite a few this year so I don't mind losing some to the storm.
