Leptospirosis, is your pet protected?
Have you heard about the growing number of Leptospirosis cases in California? This bacterium is present across the nation, even in our own backyards. Leptospirosis is a potentially deadly bacterium that can affect your dog and may be transmitted to you and your family, as it is classified as a zoonotic disease.
Fortunately, there is a highly effective vaccine available. In response to the increasing cases and concerns starting in 2024, the AVMA has updated its vaccine guidelines and now recommends that all dogs receive this vaccine as part of their core vaccination series.
Vaccination Schedule:
A two-vaccine booster series, administered three weeks apart
Annual vaccinations thereafter to ensure ongoing protection
Union Animal Hospital provides one of the safest and most effective vaccines available on the market to keep your pets, and our own, protected.
We have been actively discussing this important topic with all our patients during their wellness exams. While this vaccine is not new, the guidelines on which dogs should receive it have changed. We strongly encourage all dog owners to ensure their pets are up to date with this vaccination. If you need assistance with this, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
