CLEAR HCM SCANS! 💃🏼🎉🙌🏻

Thank you so much to everyone who sent prayers today for healthy hearts and for my lines to continue their HCM-free history. I am incredibly grateful to share that we received CLEAR HCM scans!

There is so much intentionality, prayer, testing, and love behind the future of this program, and moments like this make it all feel so worth it.

I’m so excited to head into another year focused on continued health, thoughtful preservation, and producing truly incredible Sphynx. Here’s to healthy hearts and an exciting year ahead! 😻

We’re on our way for our annual HCM scans! 🤍

Today is an important part of what responsible Sphynx breeding looks like behind the scenes. HCM, or Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, is a serious heart condition within the breed, which is why routine cardiac screening is such an important part of our program.

We’re headed to WSU today to have our show cats scanned by cardiology before moving forward with future breeding plans. These appointments are one of the many ways we work to make thoughtful, health-focused decisions for the future of our lines.

Showing is exciting. Beautiful kittens are exciting. But protecting the health and longevity of the breed will always matter more.

Prayers for safe travels and healthy hearts today would be greatly appreciated! 🤍

Azalea — Portland, Oregon — September 11th & 12th

Azalea feels a little differently about the show ring than Ptero. She thinks their toys are crap and they also do not deserve the privilege of judging her. Give her some love and she’ll perk up, but that’s about the best she’s willing to give.

This weekend Azalea officially entered Adult Class! At just 8 months old, she was competing against much more mature, fully developed Sphynx. She also has a healing play injury to her left eye, which can and did affect judging this weekend.

I made the decision to pull her after two rings on Friday, and afterward I learned just how valuable every ring can be. By pulling her, she missed out on a minimum of 200 potential points toward her championship title. Definitely one of those lessons you learn by doing!

Azalea is currently only 4.6 pounds, so while she’s technically competing as an adult, she still has a lot of maturing to do. Many of the mature Sphynx we were competing alongside were closer to 7–9 pounds, and the difference in overall development and conditioning was noticeable.

So now we take what we learned and apply it!

Our focus with Azalea is supporting healthy growth and building condition. Thankfully, this girl LOVES to eat, so now we just need to put those calories to work! We’ll be encouraging more climbing, running on the wheel, and active play to help her develop more muscle and definition as she matures.

Showing is giving me such a different perspective on my cats and my breeding program. Every show gives us more information to bring home and use toward the next generation.
