Meet Morgan! Morgan joined us a few months ago, bringing a refreshing presence to our salon as she assists with phone duties, dog bathing, client check-ins, and maintaining organization. Her enthusiasm has been a game-changer for our team. After reviewing numerous applications and conducting multiple tele-interviews, I had narrowed down my search, but Morgan's follow-up call showcased her exceptional communication skills, composed demeanor, and genuine passion for the role, sealing her position on our team. I'm grateful for that call! Morgan's upbringing on a Missouri farm, where her family raised service dogs and farm animals, has instilled in her a deep affection for animals. Her experiences in mission work in Belize, serving in New York, and being a newlywed, have shaped her compassionate nature. We feel blessed to have Morgan on board, and her heart for animals has made her an invaluable addition to our team. If you see Morgan, be sure to say hello! 🥰😊 PS My drawer of equipment has never been more organized. 😀

😊Happy petting. It’s good for us both.

Think all petting feels good to your dog? Not even close. Science shows a lot of what we call affection is actually overstimulation. Slow it down. Your dog doesn’t want a drum solo on their head. Slow strokes equal calm, fast pats equal stress.

A new peer-revied study surveying dog and cat owners looked at how touch relates to pet wellbeing and found clear differences between species. For dogs, gentle petting had the biggest positive impact, especially slow, calm stroking along the chest, shoulders, and sides. The more time and physical contact, the better, with added benefits when dogs lean on their owners or sleep close by. This type of touch mimics natural social grooming and helps reduce stress while promoting relaxation. In contrast, owner-initiated petting didn’t have the same effect in cats. What mattered more was cat-initiated contact, particularly head rubbing, also known as bunting. Gentle touch can improve wellbeing, but only when it aligns with the animal’s natural behavior and comfort level. Takeaway: If your dog leans into you, relaxes, or closes their eyes, you’re doing it right, if they pull away or get restless, adjust pressure or location.

Pricing

I felt led to write this post about pricing after a few client's have said why is my price different than my friend Bills? We both have golden retrievers? Pricing within any breed can really vary. Not all dogs are the same size. Not all dogs have the same coats. Not all dogs get the same clip. Not all dogs have the same amount of time in between grooms. Not all dogs behave in the same manner, and so on. There are many different factors that come in to play in the pricing of your pet. Dog's coats and weight change over the years, many become very overweight, and the coats become very thick. Pricing will directly relate to each individual dog on each groom. That price might not be the same as your last price, even if we have not "raised our prices". We try to be very competitive and fair in our pricing. Costs across the board to stay in business have all risen significantly, including our clippers, shampoos and product, scissors (don't even get me started there) electricity, taxes, electric tables, maintenance, rent and more. It is not just the time it takes us to groom your pet, but the overall expenses involved in doing so. We want to continue to stay in business and take care of your pets like we have been doing for all these years, but things change, times are much different now then when I opened the doors in 1992. We hope you all can understand if your price is different than it's been. Please ask! Longer fluffy clips take more time, more shampoo, and just plain more work than a short cut. The price will reflect that. If your dog has gained a significant amount of weight and it is hard for them to stand or are reluctant to stand, it is more work, your price will reflect that. If your dog is getting very old and fragile, it takes more time to care and comfort them during their groom, your price will reflect that. If you have a new puppy has never been groomed and it is 8 months old with matted hair and jumping and happy and not sitting still, your price will reflect that. We want to continue doing what we do, and caring for your four legged family members to the best of our ability, and I just wanted to share thoughts that are on my mind. Happy Saturday, and we will see you soon. Jamie

Do you know what your dog is eating?

Some brands passed and some brands failed: a new investigation by the Clean Label Project tested 79 of the most popular pet foods and found that dry kibble consistently had the highest levels of heavy metals, plastic-related chemicals, and acrylamide, a compound formed during high-heat processing.
Compared to fresh and frozen foods, kibble contained:

• ~21× more lead and mercury
• 13× more arsenic
• 6× more cadmium
• 24× more acrylamide, with one product testing at 780 ppb

Plastic-associated chemicals like BPA, BPS, and DEHP were also highest in dry food and lowest in fresh and frozen products.

Researchers note that because many dogs eat the same dry food every day for years, long-term exposure and accumulation of contaminants in organs like the liver and kidneys may contribute to chronic disease and potentially increase cancer risk.
