We had an absolute blast in our very first Flag Fest parade!

We came prepared with 108 pounds of candy, 3 boxes of freezies, plus tennis balls and p**p bags… and somehow we ran out of everything!

Thank you to everyone who came out, waved, and celebrated with us—we loved seeing all your smiling faces (and wagging tails 🐾). Safe to say, we now know one thing for sure… we’ll need to stock up even more for next year!

Already looking forward to Flag Fest 2027!

We had a blast taking part in our very first gender reveal! 🎉🐦

We'll be trading stethoscopes for candy buckets and can't wait to see everyone along the parade route!

📣 Homestead Small Animal Practice is joining the Spencer Chamber and Upper Des Moines Opportunity in their “Fill the Shelves” competition!

We are competing with other Spencer businesses to see who can collect the most donations of our assigned item — canned or shelf-stable meats! 🥫🍖 This includes chicken, tuna and spam!

Can you help us help others in our community? Donations can be dropped off at Homestead Small Animal Practice now through noon on June 5th.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women—and the loyal military animals—who served our country with courage and devotion.

From working dogs to horses and other animal heroes, these faithful companions stood beside our service members and played an important role in protecting and supporting them.

We are deeply grateful for the sacrifices made by all who served, both human and animal.

From all of us at Homestead Small Animal Practice, we wish you and your pets a safe and peaceful Memorial Day.

Today we’re celebrating our slow-and-steady shelled friends! Turtles may seem low-maintenance, but they need specialized care to stay healthy and thrive. 💚

Here are a few quick turtle care reminders:
☀️ Proper UVB lighting is essential
💧 Clean water = healthy shell & skin
🥬 Diet matters — not all turtles eat the same foods
🏠 Habitat size and temperature are extremely important

Signs your turtle may need a vet visit:
⚠️ Soft shell
⚠️ Swollen eyes
⚠️ Not eating
⚠️ Trouble swimming
⚠️ Lethargy

Whether you have a tiny hatchling or a senior shelled companion, regular wellness checks help keep them happy and healthy for years to come.
