These posts just popped up in my memories today… the early whisperings of what would become Cat Trap Depot 🥹

As many of you know, I own a pet sitting business in town, and one of my employees had found kittens under an outbuilding at our local retirement home. Knowing what I know now, I would have left kittens with their mom and circled back to TNR them when they were older. But at the time, I thought they needed rescue. I was thankfully able to find them all homes.

I can’t remember who orginally provided me with guidance as I knew nothing about TNR, but I bought my first humane trap from tractor supply and got momma spayed, as well as an extra bonus cat.

After that, I started noticing unfixed cats everywhere and when I would go to clients’ houses, I would ask if they would allow me to TNR for them. I accumulated a handful of traps and at that time, County Animal Control was transporting ferals to Animal Allies but they were backlogged with traps. I saw a need, both more traps. and the rest is a blur! 😹

I wanted to reshare this post to show how our community is showing up & making a difference. 🫶 It may feel overwhelming some days being just 1 person, and fixing just 1 cat at a time. But you ARE making a difference! 💗. Look at what "just 1 person" can do... and put us all together, and what a difference we will make!! Keep it up, Spartanburg!!

((photo shows my dry erase board where renters report how many cats they got sterilized with their trap rental))

We will be doing this again in about a week or two! Please make sure you add your Cowpens colony to our database!

Calling all colony caretakers in Cowpens, SC! 🐈

I'm in the ((very)) early stages of trying to apply the concept of Targeted TNR to Spartanburg County... a strategy that focuses on one zone (or zip code) at a time, so that we can work smarter instead of harder, to maximize our impact.

Based on the colonies already submitted to our Cat Stats database, I'd like to start in Cowpens. Research shows that TNR is only effective when at least 70-75% of a colony is sterilized, so I'm hoping to get several vet clinics on board to increase our surgery numbers so we can start knocking out entire colonies, one zone at a time. This will definitely need to be a collaborative effort! 💛

Here's how you can help:

🐈‍⬛ If you know of a community cat colony in Cowpens, please submit that info here:
form.jotform.com/cattrapdepot/spartanburgTNR

🐈‍⬛ If you live in Cowpens and would like to support this effort, please consider donating here: https://linktr.ee/cattrapdepot (all donations are tax-deductible)

🐈‍⬛ If you are physically capable of trapping yourself, please help us help you! Contact me to borrow a trap and I'll explain how to go through our county's TNR program at Animal Allies Clinic: www.cattrapdepot.org

We have 17 surgeries scheduled at a vet clinic for next week and the cost will be approximately $60/cat which includes rabies & FVRCP vaccines, flea & tick, dewormer, and ear tip. Any donations would be greatly appreciated!! (please just note they are for "COWPENS CATS")

A *huge* thank you to Kathy for volunteering to clean our traps a couple times a month! 🙏🥹

I originally met Kathy a couple months ago when she contacted me to rent traps to fix the cats in her yard. She has since fixed her entire colony, one cat at a time. And like most of us, she caught the TNR bug in the process. 😺 She is now helping a neighbor get his colony fixed too, and then kindly offered to help me with one of the less glamorous parts of trapping. Thank you, Kathy! 💗

This is the best part of TNR, release day! 🫶

Most of the cats at this abandoned trailer park are anywhere from 2 to 6 months old, but we did catch a 7 year old mama who has clearly been through a lot. She’s missing an eye, had an upper respiratory infection, mouth ulcers, lice, and is apparently nursing kittens. These are the ones that make me extra grateful. 🥹 this will be her last litter! 🙌 she is a tiny girl and that’s a lot on a little cat’s system. And she will no longer be mounted by those frisky males.

⭐️If you are feeding community/feral cats, please contact us to borrow a trap: cattrapdepot.org — we will show you how to use it and explain how to get them fixed for FREE through the TNR program at Animal Allies Clinic!

We need the entire community’ help! 🙏
