TO SHAVE OR NOT TO SHAVE......THAT IS THE QUESTION......
Finding a groomer willing to take the time to educate you on your dogs coat type, choices you may have and possible outcomes to different choices should be important and taken into consideration when choosing who cares for your dog. So thankful they chose us!
Sometimes shaving a dog is necessary or the only option, especially with a coat in this condition , but...... not always and that's where knowledgeable, skilled groomers are so important!
This client wanted the dogs coat "fixed" because they said it had never looked like this before and they were not happy with its condition.
It would have been very easy to say "we'll shave all of that off and fix it right up!" It would have fixed the current matted coat for sure and the dog would have been more comfortable no doubt but .....we would have created another problem moving forward... a VERY damaged coat!!
Instead, we communicated and educated the client. We told them shaving was a possibility but we also told them how it damages the coat severely. They were unaware shaving a double coat would severely damage it and in some instances the coat doesn't even grow back!
We were willing to try to remove the mats, creating much less coat damage and salvage what we could. They were informed about possible outcomes, the time involved in this process and that we would do our best to save this dogs coat, if we could. We were confident in our ability, we all agreed and Ashley got to work!
Was it a challenge....yes.
Was it time consuming....yes.
Was it expensive....yes.
Was it worth it....you decide!
Experience, Knowledge and a willing and caring groomer is all it took!
The client was thrilled, the dog was happy and comfortable and now they are coming in regularly to keep the coat clean, healthy and mat free!
