SEVEN YEARS: THE STORY OF US
On September 16, 2019, Dr. Edds and a staff of 5 first opened the doors of Bluegrass Veterinary Clinic. And let me tell you, that first year was a doozy! Our clinic got hit hard by the straight line winds and then, well, COVID. We had to learn very quickly how to adjust to veterinary medicine in a whole new world. Curbside appointments, who remembers that? And trust me when I say, we hated it just as much as you did (if not more!). But even through that time of uncertainty, you showed up and the clinic grew. By August of 2020, we added a second full-time veterinarian, Dr. Wilson, and continued in our mission to provide exceptional care to the animals of the Upper Cumberland.
In the summer of 2022, we welcomed Dr. Lancaster and she was with us for nearly 3 years until life took her closer to home. In May of 2025, Dr. Hoffmeyer joined us and allowed us to expand our large animal farm calls. Dr. Matthews started on a relief basis with us in May of 2025, and then on a part-time basis in March of this year. Dr. Brady followed in May of 2026, bringing with her a love for small and large animals alike. The latest addition to our crew has been Dr. Douglas, a White County native who comes back to her hometown to share her knowledge and care where her love of animals first started.
If you’re keeping count, we now have 4 full-time veterinarians on staff, and when Dr. Wilson went to part-time in November of 2025 that gave us 2 part-time veterinarians. In addition to these exceptional women, we currently have a support staff of 11 other ladies who do everything from answering phones to administering vaccines, from cuddling puppies to crying with you as you say goodbye to your family member. I can say with certainty that we have the best staff EVER. They are a perfect mix of heart and head, love and knowledge, and will do anything in their power to keep your pets as healthy as possible.
The veterinary community is often criticized for being in it “for the money” and I can tell you with certainty that is not why these ladies do what they do. Most of them could easily find better paying jobs (and lower stress!), but they love and believe in what they do. And they want to do it here, in a rural area where quality veterinary care is not always easily accessible.
The road that started 7 years ago has not always been easy, but it has always been worth it. We've clung together through the hard times and you have lifted our spirits at times when we didn't know how we'd go on. The relationships we’ve made with both humans and animals are what keep us going. We do it for the moments where we are able to improve the quality of life of a pet or ease its pain. And we even do it for the times where we can be shoulder for you to cry on in the difficult moments. We have loved doing life with you and your pets and look forward to continuing to care for your pets for many years to come. ❤
