Tru likes taking care of our other dogs a. For her that means trying to clean them. She had been licking Sage’s arm in the same place for a bit before Sage was done with it.
The lips curling back to show teeth is a warning that Sage isn’t comfortable with the behavior anymore and she wants more space. At the beginning, it starts as just a lip twitch and eventually progresses to showing her full teeth. The progression likely happened because Tru closes her eyes when grooming the other dogs so she didn’t notice the signals she was being given, which is why I started stepping in, although it was probably with the wrong time at first. Sage also does some yawns and licks her lips which are additional signals. These additional signals are stress markers because she doesn’t normally do this many warning signs and try to give this many ignored chances.
Communication is a good thing for them to do. Dogs giving signals is to avoid escalating to a bite or fight stage. As you can see, they immediately adjusted positions and are already back to sleeping in a dog pile again.

This is the video I was trying to capture two days ago, but I guess Finley just needed his 1st birthday to keep showing off once the camera came out. Happy birthday to this crazy boy and all his littermates!
I also just have to point off that the bed, background, and all surroundings are in focus but Finley hardly ever is because he’s moving too fast unless he rarely holding still. 😂🤦‍♀️

Irish Wolfhound zoomies are no joke but also very entertaining. He has always been doing this for about a minute before I picked up my phone to start the video and of course then he stops quickly. He’s going to be 1 year old at the end of this month.

We got Tru just under 13 months ago. We have grown so much together in that time but my favorite thing to have discovered about her is how fun she is to bathe. It’s kind of disappointing that Shar-Pei don’t need to be bathed more often. 😅 She goes into a zen state and looks like a shark when it’s flipped upside down. She’s so sweet.

These conversations are so important for our dogs to be able to have with each other. Tru and Finley and both still having the best time wrestling with each other, but you might notice one major thing is changing from the previous video like this that I’ve posted.
At the end when Tru says she’s had enough and is done with playing Finley doesn’t chase her and force more interaction anyway. He’s starting to grow up and understand the signals better.
