As costs continue to rise rapidly, we have taken the initiative to create homemade wet food for our cats and dogs. Our previous expenditure on Friskies wet cat food was $40 for 8 days. In comparison, our homemade concoction comprising three $5 Costco chickens, rice, peas, carrots, sweet potato, egg, Greek yogurt, flax seed, and sardines, all cooked in a pressure cooker and blended into a pate, yields 22 days of healthy meals for approximately $30. This approach not only generates significant savings but also provides a healthier alternative. Notably, we exclude chicken skin and juices due to high salt and fat content and use the carcasses to make bone broth. After a couple of weeks, even our most finicky eaters have adapted to the fresh food, showing reduced to no interest in commercial canned food.
