Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter

Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter is a non-profit wild bird rehabilitation and release organization.

We provide medical treatment for wild birds that are injured, sick, or orphaned. Visitation is arranged through our website, seabiscuitwildlifeshelter.org The Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter has special wildlife rehabilitation permits required by the Fish and Wildlife Service and the State of North Carolina in order to keep wild animals in captivity. Staff Members have years of experience and attend

annual continuing education classes and conferences to ensure our patients the best care. Volunteers are trained to handle patients, see to their diets and clean and monitor them daily. The shelter also partners with the North Carolina State University Veterinary School to research rehabilitation techniques and give veterinary students hands on experience. Our staff and volunteers participate in local events to educate the public about common wildlife injuries and how to help prevent these. The Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.

The infants don't quite look like babies anymore. They are currently 32 and 29 days old. Below is a timeline of their development.

Nestling/ Rearing (June - July): Chicks remain in the nest for 50 - 55 days (approx. 8 weeks), with the parents making grocery runs to feed the growing chicks. Don't worry about them getting too close to the edge. We have a person that gets up very early to make sure that no one has fallen out of bed.

Fledging (July- August) Young take their first flights around 50 - 60 days after hatching. The parents are still bringing groceries as the teens raid the fridge.

So, to all of our Overhead Osprey Oglers (OOOs), we hope that you have enjoyed watching as these babies grow up. We would like to thank our silent benefactor that allowed this project to "get off of the ground". Sadly, he passed away before the project was finished. We would love to keep this cam going for as long as possible. However, we do anticipate the need to replace equipment every season due to the coastal weather.

If any of the OOOs would like join us in our future endeavors to maintain the project, please visit our website at seabiscuitwildlifeshelter.org. You can visit our donate page. Please specify that the donation is for the osprey cam.

Enjoy!! They'll take flight before you know it!

Scarlet (in the foreground) and Glenda (not pictured) have taken in another juvenile hawk. What's one more when you already have three? They now are surrogates for 2 red tailed and 2 red shouldered hawks. All of the little ones are feeding themselves.
