Meet Ciara — Veterinary Assistant!
For Ciara, the dream of working with animals started when she was just a little girl who wanted to become an “animal doctor.”
Two childhood experiences helped shape that dream. The first was when a work truck accidentally struck one of her family's dogs, dislocating its hip. The second was a much happier memory: helping dry off newborn German Shepherd puppies after her family's dog gave birth. Those moments sparked an interest in caring for animals that eventually led her into veterinary medicine.
Today, Ciara loves the challenge of solving difficult cases and the fact that no two days in veterinary medicine are ever the same!
But what matters most to her is helping both patients and their families feel comfortable during difficult moments. She understands that a calm patient is easier to care for and that a reassured pet owner is better able to understand and remember important medical information.
And if you're wondering about her favorite patients, the answer might surprise you: aquatic animals! Especially axolotls!
Outside the hospital, Ciara has created her own little haven on a hobby farm. Her animal family includes a horse, a rabbit, 10 chickens, 2 guinea fowl, 8 dogs (including a foster!), 7 cats, and 2 aquariums. That's quite a crew!
And here's something you probably wouldn't guess: Ciara grew up in her uncle's taxidermy shop!
Her advice to pet owners is practical and important: research an animal's needs before bringing it home, invest in appropriate pet insurance, and remember that preventive care is often much less expensive than treating preventable illnesses.
Ciara also plays an essential role behind the scenes at Urgent Vets for Pets. As the person responsible for managing our hospital's inventory, she helps ensure our medical team has the supplies, medications, and equipment needed to provide the best possible care for our patients.
Her attention to detail, organizational skills, and dedication help keep our hospital running smoothly every day. It's a responsibility that often goes unnoticed, but without her hard work, we simply couldn't do what we do.
Because exceptional patient care doesn't just happen in the exam room. It also depends on the people working tirelessly behind the scenes.
