At the end of my day, one of my greatest senses of fulfillment comes from watching the dogs instantly fall asleep in my car on their ride home.

They start their day bouncing off the walls, excitedly jumping into the car, ready for whatever adventures await them. By the time we're headed home, they're curled up in complete slumber, completely content and utterly exhausted.

For me, that's one of the clearest signs that I did my job well. It tells me I met their physical, mental, and emotional needs to the best of my ability. I got to give them a day full of enrichment, exploration, freedom, and fun…and now I get to send them home tired.

Because a tired and truly fulfilled dog is a happy dog. ❤️

I want to take a moment to highlight just how important these walks are for the dogs in my care….and if I'm being honest, how important they are for my own mental health too.

In a world where we control nearly every aspect of our dogs' lives, from what they eat, to where they sleep, to even when they can go potty (really think about that) sometimes the simplest and most beneficial thing we can do is give them a choice.

Today, Cacio chose to go off trail, and I let him.

He didn't dart into the woods. He simply asked a question he felt safe enough to ask. He took a few steps off the path, then turned around as if looking for permission. I said yes.

Did that mean bushwhacking through the undergrowth, cobwebs in my face, and the occasional stick to the shin? Absolutely.

But it also meant we discovered something new together. We found a different stretch of stream, a beautiful grove of hemlocks, unfamiliar scents, new sounds, and little pieces of the forest we would have otherwise missed.

The woods will always be Cacio's happy place, his safe space to explore, make choices, and lead the way. And I am forever grateful that I can give him, and dogs like him, that freedom.

It sounds simple because, as humans, we love the convenience of a well-marked trail. But next time you're out with your dog, consider following them into that random patch of woods.

You might be surprised by what you discover.

PSA:
Maple would like my awesome clients to know that a good roll in the mud is always aloud here. Your dogs will not go home clean….but they will go home tired and happy so I call that a win. Maple agrees 😂

Zoomies are a part of the everyday here for a lot of dogs, but Jasper took full advantage of the hot day and cool water in the fish pond 😂

Summer boarding is almost full 😳
