For anyone who was following the Big Bear Eagles, and Jackie’s story…

The saddest of updates from the Ojai Raptor Center.

Jackie, the beloved Eagle from Big Bear, has passed.

Fly high, beautiful Jackie. You were loved by people you never even knew were watching.

And you mattered. So very much. 💔

Your legacy will live on through your babies and the awareness you brought to not just a small group of people, but to the world. One bird, and you captivated the world. 💕💕

Patient Update: Bald Eagle 26-519

It is with profound sadness that we share that Patient 26-519 passed away in the early hours of this morning, following more than three weeks of intensive medical care.

Over the past several days, her condition continued to deteriorate despite intensive treatment and the combined efforts of our veterinary team and consulting specialists. She remained critically ill, receiving oxygen therapy, supportive treatment, and around-the-clock monitoring in our intensive care unit.

Throughout her time at Ojai Raptor Center, every decision was guided by the available medical evidence, her welfare, and our responsibility to do what was in her best interest.

Her remains have been transferred into the care of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW).

We know this news will be deeply felt by the many thousands of people around the world who have followed her journey, hoped alongside us, prayed for her, and supported the people caring for her.

Our team is heartbroken. It has been an extraordinary privilege to care for her.

We ask for patience and kindness as our staff process this loss. We are working closely with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and will provide a more comprehensive statement including additional information on her treatments and test results.

To protect our staff and community during this difficult time, comments on this post have been turned off.

To everyone who cared about Patient 26-519, thank you. Thank you for your messages, your prayers, your encouragement, and for standing beside our team throughout these past weeks. We are deeply grateful for the way Patient 26-519 brought people together through a shared love of wildlife.

🚨 We Need Your Help to Keep Saying “Yes.” 🚨

This is one of those posts that’s hard to write… but it’s important. Please don’t scroll by without at least sharing.

Lately, our rescue has been overwhelmed with owner surrenders, senior cats, and cats with medical issues. These are the ones that so many others pass by because they’re older, sick, or simply need more than the average cat.

But they’re exactly the ones we can’t turn our backs on.

Every new life we welcome through our doors means another mouth to feed, another litter box to clean, another veterinary bill, and another promise that they will never know hunger or neglect again.

Here’s where you can make an incredible difference.

Through our Amazon Business account, we’re able to purchase much of our cat food at about 30% below retail prices, but only for a few days, as the sales usually last 48 to 72 hours. That’s an enormous savings for a rescue our size.

Unfortunately, those business-only prices aren’t available through Amazon Prime or our public Wish List, so we can’t simply add the food there for you to purchase.

Instead, we’re asking for donations that will allow us to buy directly through our business account and stretch every dollar as far as possible.

Think about that for a moment…

❤️ Your $25 donation doesn’t buy $25 worth of food—it helps us purchase about $35 worth because of the discounts we’re able to receive during these sales.

That means more full bowls.
More rescued cats.
More seniors living out their golden years in comfort.
More frightened owner surrenders learning that people can still be kind.
More second chances.

Every single dollar saved on food is a dollar we can redirect toward surgeries, medications, emergency veterinary care, and rescuing the next cat whose life hangs in the balance.

If Second Hand Siamese has ever made you smile…
If you’ve followed one of our rescue stories…
If you’ve celebrated an adoption with us…
If you simply believe every cat deserves a chance…

Please consider making a donation today.

Because every bag of food you help us buy tells another cat:

“You’re safe now. We’ve got you.”

As always, thank you for standing beside us. We truly couldn’t do this without our incredible village. You are the reason these cats have hope. ❤️🐾

Saving those that need saving the most. 💕💕

🧡 Meet Saffron 🧡

Rare Ginger Girl • Sweet • Sassy • Full of Personality

Some cats are wallflowers…

Saffron? She’d much rather be the star of the show.

This gorgeous orange-and-white beauty is one of those rare ginger girls that everyone falls in love with. (Yes, orange females are much less common than orange males, making Miss Saffron extra special!)

Once upon a time, Saffron was found wandering the streets, fending for herself. Those days are thankfully behind her, and she’s fully embraced the luxurious indoor lifestyle. Soft beds? Yes, please. Air conditioning? Absolutely. A full food bowl? She expects nothing less.

Saffron is the perfect mix of sweet affection and confident sass. She’s happy to spend time with her people, but she also knows exactly what she likes—and isn’t shy about letting you know. We suspect she’s pretty smart… well… as smart as an orange cat can be. 😉 (Orange cat owners know exactly what we mean!)

When it comes to food, Saffron is a true connoisseur. Dinner time is serious business, and if you’ve got Churus, you’ve just become her favorite human. Those creamy treats are the fastest way to win this girl’s heart.

Because Saffron enjoys being the queen of her castle, she’d do best in a home with few or no other pets where she doesn’t have to compete for attention. Polite, respectful children who understand cat boundaries should be just fine.

If you’re looking for a cat with beauty, personality, confidence, and just the right amount of diva energy, Saffron may be your perfect match.

🧡 Saffron is ready to trade her life on the streets for a forever throne. Could it be in your home?

I’m not sure who is teaching who the bad habit of “dresser surfing.”

Apparently this is the new vantage point for bird watching (as you can tell by the saucer sized eyes). Lol

This is Smalls and a little nugget that we rescued several months back who needed some extra TLC, so the boys have been teaching her the ropes.

Her name is Schmoopy. lol.

A HUGE “Meezer” thank you to each and every one of you (and you know who you are and how much I appreciate you), who answered our recent plea for food and monetary donations. Your kindness, generosity, and unwavering support mean more than words could ever express.

Because of you, hungry bellies will be filled, veterinary bills can be paid, and we are able to continue saying “yes” to cats and kittens who have nowhere else to turn. Every bag of food, every dollar donated, every share, and every kind word truly makes a difference.

Running a rescue is never easy, and there are days when the need feels overwhelming. But then our amazing village steps up, reminding us that we are not alone in this mission.

Please know that your generosity does so much more than provide supplies—it gives hope. Hope to the frightened street cat, the abandoned kitten, the senior left behind, and the special needs kitty who deserves a chance at love.

From the bottom of our hearts, and on behalf of all of the Meezers, moggies, and future rescues whose lives will be changed because of you… thank you for continuing this journey with us and for believing in what we do.

You are MY village. So many of you have been with me from the very start. Even if I don’t say it…the love is there.

Together, we are saving lives. ❤️🐾

With love and gratitude,

Lorena

Kittens are demanding Kitten Chow AND it’s on sale! One bag feeds a lot of hungry mouths!

Hey everyone!! I know I sound like a broken record when I say I try not to ask for “help” too often.

A lot of changes are coming over the next few months - BIG CHANGES - GOOD CHANGES!!! Please help us make these changes come to fruition!

We have taken in a lot of kitties over the last few months…a lot of soon to be moms, a lot of moms with litters, orphaned babies, and a LOT of medical cases.

I’ve never been one to ask for outright monetary donations (even though they are always appreciated), but anything from our Wish List of supplies is literally like Christmas time for the kitties.

I’ve had a few people ask for an updated list, so I’ll share it here. Our biggest need is always dry and wet food.

PLEASE, if you send something from the list, fill out the little “note” section so that we know who to thank!!

If by chance you would rather drop a monetary donation, it is ALWAYS spent on the kitties.

We have several ways you can donate:

PayPal: [email protected]

Venmo: -bourque

Zelle: [email protected] or 203-947-5261

Cash app: $lorenabourque

Thank you all for your continued support!!!

Pollen's Story

Meet Pollen

Tiny dog. Big feelings. Questionable life experience.

Pollen is an approximately 18 month old yorkie mix maybe with some poodle, maybe some westie, maybe a little bit of pure chaos sprinkled in for personality. There is definitely a lot going on here, but somehow it all comes together into one very lovable little dog.

This sweet girl came from a breeding/hoarding situation where many dogs were living together in one home, so the world is still a pretty confusing place for her. She wants love SO badly, and once she bonds to you, she bonds HARD. Right now, she believes her human should never leave her sight ever again. Like... ever.

Pollen is affectionate, playful, funny, and still very puppy-like in many ways. Unfortunately, nobody ever taught her actual puppy manners, so shes currently taking a crash course in How To Dog.

That means:
She jumps when excited
She gives puppy nips during play
She struggles with being alone
She will need patience, structure, and consistency
She is absolutely not a perfect little lap dog right out of the gate

Because of her anxiety and sensitivity, we believe Pollen would do best in a calmer home with no young children and likely as an only dog. Older children who understand boundaries may be okay.

What she truly needs is someone patient, experienced, and committed to helping her feel safe while she learns how to navigate her new life. Someone willing to celebrate the little victories, laugh through the chaos, and understand that healing takes time.

We are determined to set Pollen up for success with the right person or family. Underneath all her quirks is a sweet little dog who desperately wants to trust, love, and belong.

And honestly? Watching a dog like Pollen slowly realize shes safe is one of the most rewarding things in the world.

Her foster family states she is very affectionate. She barks but not excessively, mostly at the lawn mover. She gets along with the family cats and guinea pig, even allowing the guinea pig to climb on her. She follows people closely and loves to eat. She did very well in the bath tub. She is extremely puppy like.
