Little Squeakhearts Gerbils - Maine

These pups appear to be just hours old! Mama (color: schimmel) has done a wonderful job of birthing them, cleaning them up, and feeding them. Note the faint white patch on the side of the centermost pup: this is a milk-filled stomach showing through transparent skin! Gerbil pups weigh only 2-3 grams at birth, but grow & develop quickly. In the LSQ nursery: Mama Sable got a well-deserved snack break while oldest daughter Sunflower took care of 2 of her younger siblings. Even though the pups’ eyes aren’t open yet they are beginning to try to eat small items. It’s important to give a variety of little, softish foods for them to explore with their tiny teeth!
