Specifically, donations help with the upkeep of the sea turtles housed at the facility. This includes food, medications, heaters, filters, water, and electricity. Donations are also used to support Sea Turtle, Inc.’s educational programs and alternative resource and conservation projects around the world. Each summer we host an internship program for eight currently enrolled or recently graduated college students in the biological sciences. Donations fund both of these student opportunities. 🕵️‍♀️🐢 We are traveling across the globe today to talk about the unique Flatback Sea Turtle! We’ve listed four statements about them below, but one of them is completely FALSE. Read carefully and see if you can spot the imposter!

1️⃣ They have unique fingerprints: While most sea turtles have perfectly symmetrical shells, the Flatback’s carapace is often asymmetrical, sometimes having 6 scutes (scales) on one side and 8 on the other!
2️⃣ Small but Mighty Nests: Compared to all other sea turtle species, female Flatbacks lay the fewest eggs per nest.
3️⃣ A Fitting Name: Unlike other species that have a rounded, high dome to their shell, Flatback sea turtles have a very flattened carapace with slightly upturned edges.
4️⃣ Exclusive Beaches: Australia is the only place in the entire world where Flatback sea turtles are known to nest.

Somebody call the Sheriff…there’s a new bandit in town. For the first time ever, a badger has been observed preying on sea turtle nests on our island. This outlaw has already claimed two nests, and we’re calling on the community to help keep him in check. 🤠🐾

This is a new challenge for our nesting season. Stay alert out there, partners. If you see this animal in action, please scare it off safely and call Sea Turtle Inc’s emergency line: 956-243-4361.
