Did you know that August is Itchy Pet Awareness Month? Itchy skin in pets can be caused by many things, just like in humans.

It can be external allergy related such as pollen, dust mites or animal dander, it can be food allergy related such as certain meats, grains or dairy, it can be auto-immune related where the skin becomes inflamed ongoing with the need of extra support, it can be related to the animal stress licking and forming an itchy sore, it can be caused by recent grooming and a sensitivity to the equipment used or hair clippings, it can be linked to parasites such as fleas.

If your pet needs support with their itchy skin, please contact us. Supporting itchy skin and preventing it where possible can help reduce the risk of infection, decrease cortisol (stress hormone) levels, improve sleep quality and mood.

Tongue-out Tuesday with Vixie. She was all smiles because her mom is protecting her with Credelio Quattro.
Credelio Quattro is a once monthly oral treat that protects dogs against ticks, fleas, heartworm disease, roundworms, hookworms, and tapeworms. Credelio Quattro is also conditionally approved for the treatment of New World screwworm larvae infestations in dogs.

As you know Dr. Jess has been off getting her new Emergency Hospital up and running. Please like this page so you have it the event your pet has an emergent need after hours. It is located in Dunmore, right down 81 about 40 minutes.
Today the have staff in the office ANSWERING PHONES and learning the program. Feel free to call and get registered so you have one less thing to worry about in a stressful situation.

Our phones are officially up and running!

While Steamtown Veterinary Center isn’t open just yet, we’ll be in the office until 7 PM tonight and would love to start getting you and your pets into our system.

Give us a call and we can get your basic information set up ahead of time. That way, once we’re open, if you ever need us for an emergency or urgent visit, you’re already in our system and there’s one less thing to worry about.

Steamtown Veterinary Center is not a general practice, and we are not here to replace your primary care veterinarian. We are an emergency and urgent care hospital here to work alongside the great veterinary practices in our community when your pet needs more immediate care.

In addition to emergency and urgent care, we will also be performing surgeries.
