Let the horses teach them how to rise,
Before the sun paints up the skies.
How chores come first, no matter what,
And grit is grown from barnyard ruts.

Let the horses teach them how to wait,
That trust don’t rush or show up late.
It’s earned in quiet, step by step,
In every promise gently kept.

Let the horses teach them how to fall,
And not to fear the dirt at all.
To brush it off, stand tall, and then...
Climb back in that saddle again.

Let the horses teach them strength with grace,
To hold their ground, to know their place.
That power isn’t loud or proud,
It’s steady hands and heads unbowed.

Let the horses teach them to be still,
To feel the world, to know the will.
To listen more, to talk much less,
To lead with love and gentleness.

Let the horses teach them who they are,
Not by fame or looks or fancy things.
But by the way they treat the weak,
And how they stand when things get bleak.

Let the horses teach them joy that stays,
In muddy boots and long, slow days.
In windswept hair and starry rides,
And how the soul feels when it flies.

Let the horses teach them how to care,
With honest hearts and hands laid bare.
To show up true, to do their part,
And carry kindness in their heart.

𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬.

I was working a young horse recently who’d been struggling with the same maneuver for days. I caught myself thinking, “𝘸𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘣𝘺 𝘯𝘰𝘸.”

But then I looked at that horse and I thought…
Maybe he’s not behind―𝘮𝘢𝘺𝘣𝘦 𝘐’𝘮 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘺.

So, I slowed down. Gave him space to think. And wouldn’t you know it—he got it. Not because I pushed, but 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥.

Sometimes the best thing we can offer our horses is the gift of time—time to think, time to trust, time to try again.
