Somewhere between summer and fall…

Earlier this summer, I picked Blackcaps from the garden and tucked them away in the freezer. Tonight, they became a warm coffee cake in the kitchen at Mill Haus.

There’s something beautiful about saving a little bit of summer for later.

The old house. The garden. Something homemade in the oven.

Maybe it’s the simple things that remind us to slow down and appreciate where we are. 🤎

🍯🌶️ Sweet Heat is here!

I just tried my first recipe for Hot Honey, and I’m officially hooked! 🔥

A little sweet, a little spicy, and made with our own honey — this Sweet Heat Honey is such a fun twist on our favorite golden goodness.

I’m excited to share this one with you! Perfect for drizzling over pizza, biscuits, chicken, cheese, or honestly…just about anything that could use a little kick. 🌶️🍯

More to come from Mill Haus! 🤎

Coffee corner. ☕🌿
This has become my absolute favorite place to sit and watch the garden.

When we closed on this home in 2023, I was certain my morning coffee would always be enjoyed on the front porch. I never imagined this little corner would become the place I look forward to most.

What was once a view with not much to see has slowly transformed into a space filled with color, texture, wildlife, and plant life. Every bed, every plant, and every winding path represents hours of hard work, patience, and love.

There is something incredibly peaceful about sitting here with a warm cup of coffee, watching the garden grow, knowing I helped create it. Sometimes the greatest reward isn’t the finished garden—it’s finding peace in the journey of building it.

Here’s to slow mornings, quiet moments, and a view that reminds me every day that beautiful things take time. 🌱🤍

The best part of gardening isn’t just watching things grow—it’s sharing the space with people who enjoy it just as much.

Our July Garden Club meeting was one for the books! We spent a beautiful evening strolling through our gardens with refreshing mint and watermelon-infused water in hand, escaping the summer heat in the shade, and wrapping up the night with ice cream and great conversation.

We also started planning for next year’s Earth Day activities and shared a preview of what’s in store for next month’s meeting.

There’s something special about gathering with fellow gardeners, sharing ideas, learning from one another, and simply enjoying the beauty we’ve all worked so hard to create. 🌿🌸🍉🍦

Do you ever have space in your garden you ignore and avoid looking at it? This was one of mine. I planted the grasses after the Rockwall was done and never continued on. The weeds took over because I didn’t mulch and the poison ivy popped up like dandelions in the spring. Over a year later I’m happy to say Ta Da!🎉 sometimes the little things make us happy! 😆

The Coop expansion is underway! The additional space and duck run are going in. I can proudly state that I have not been covered in poison ivy for this project! 😂🫣🙌🏻

Sometimes I apparently do not know my own strength. 😂 Sometimes things do not go as planned…and well the Japanese maple I was trying to replace …well that’s still in the ground with no leverage to get it out anymore. So I think I’ll go back to weeding around the pond, it’s safer and less costly,😝. PS-I do not know why someone brought out the snow shovel again…🤷‍♀️

Isn’t she lovely 😊. This tricolor beech tree was a must have when we moved here. She was a funky cheep little whip and probably darn near the first thing I planted at this house. This year(starting year 4!) the colors and structure have been a favorite focal point driving up to the house. Because of its eye catching colors it deserves a spotlight post today. What are some of your favorite trees in your landscape?

Ducks doing “duck” things. 🦆

If you’ve been following along in stories, you may have already met our newest homestead additions. If not, here’s the story…

Our larger duck friend had been living alone in a dorm room after being left behind by a previous owner. Many people don’t realize that domestic ducks cannot fly, which sadly makes them vulnerable when dumped or abandoned. They also aren’t meant to live alone — ducks are flock animals and thrive with companionship.

This poor little duck was living in a tub, missing crucial warmth, nutrients, and protein needed during rapid growth. My daughter heard about the situation and brought the duck home… and then her boyfriend showed up with a few more friends.

So here we are — now a family of three until we find out their sexes. Maybe we’ll have duck eggs this fall… or maybe they’re all boys. Time will tell. 🖤
