It wasn’t perfect, but Frog and I finally got a GP score in the books. 59.9% so just shy of a score towards my gold but Frog was wonderful and stayed with me through the whole test. Thank you Frankie Weeks for braving the weather to video! NHDEA ran a great show in tough conditions, although thankfully the rain held off until I was done for the day.

As always big thanks to Jerry Schurink for helping Frog and I get this far, and to the huge team of people that help make this happen! Stübben North America Casey Doyle In Gait Equine FivestarRiderPhysio Abigail LaLiberte

I’m very excited to officially be a Stubben Ambassador! After riding in stubbens for the last 10 years, I can honestly say that their saddles are my absolute favorite both for the horses and for me. Even with the damage to my back from an injury in 2023, I have been able to ride pain free, even when I could barely do anything else!
If you want to learn more about my stubben journey, don’t hesitate to ask!

Super lesson with Silke Rembacz Dressage this morning! We were lucky enough to have her for a quick visit. Life has been pretty crazy this summer and I’ve been pretty quiet but among other things, I am excited to finally be a Stubben Ambassador! I’ll dedicate a whole post to it tomorrow because I couldn’t help but post this specific clip from today’s lesson!

Silke helped us find a more elevated piaffe! The video is one of his first attempts at such an elevated piaffe and while it wasn’t perfect, he found it for just 2 steps and we were able to get a bit more on later tries. Frog has always struggled to balance his push and lift and you can see him worry and then he figures it out in the video!

This is also a great shot of my new stubben centurion II which arrived last month 😜 I had fun designing the color and it is cool to see it pop on the cantle

Today didn’t go quite as expected but such is life with horses. Frog became uncharacteristically anxious about the passage right towards the end of our warm up and it carried into the test with two big explosions that really brought our scores down. I was impressed with how well he managed through the rest of the test but the tension did still show. We got our lowest score at this level but such is life with horses. Onward and upward with a different warm up plan for tomorrow.

In case anyone didn’t know, Frog is an angel. In today’s episode of let’s do silly stuff with my fancy dressage horse: Frog was introduced to a flag for the first time and was completely unfazed by the experience.

It finally happened. A video I posted got hateful comments, pointing out things I already knew were wrong. I’m leaving it up for now because I know that sure, it wasn’t my best or Frog’s best, but it was still my first final centerline at Grand Prix.

I am comfortable in the knowledge that Frog lives a great life and is relaxed and confident in his job. I don’t strap his mouth shut, so yes he opens it when I have to carry him through a movement on my hands because neither of us are strong enough or schooled enough to do it perfectly all the time.

There is a lot wrong in modern dressage and I’m not it. Let’s call out the people that constantly get high scores on horses that are short necked, behind the vertical, and otherwise manhandled into a shape. Frog and I are not the problem.

First Grand Prix ✅

Today might not have gone to plan (I managed to learn my test wrong 😑) but Frog and I did do our very first Grand Prix today. A far cry from perfect but we all have to start somewhere! To do this on the horse I’ve produced just means the world. Thank you to everyone who came out today to support us!

Every horse should be capable of this. Not necessarily all the time or right away. But this level of trust and relaxation is the goal. Your horse should not be so unpredictable, reactive, or otherwise high strung that you can’t trust them to have a chill ride with minimal equipment. If you can’t do this, start looking at why and how you can get here.

I firmly believe that horses do not want to be that reactive and that they ideally can all learn to relax and enjoy their work. Whenever Frog starts to show anxiety at home, I start looking for the why. Sometimes it’s ulcers, sometimes it’s saddle, sometimes his body is hurting somewhere. I fix it and I get my horse back.

We speak for our horses. Start listening, and start accepting that no horse’s baseline personality should be anxious or reactive. That should be a passing emotion.
