🐶In this last stretch of a long winter, we could all use some warm feelings. When you pet your dog, your brain kicks off a feel-good chemical chain reaction:
• Oxytocin (“bonding hormone”) rises in both you and your dog, strengthening trust, attachment, and that warm, connected feeling.
• Dopamine increases, activating the brain’s reward system and reinforcing pleasure and happiness.
• Serotonin levels go up, helping stabilize mood and promote calm.
• Cortisol (stress hormone) drops, reducing anxiety and physical stress responses.

In short: petting your dog literally tells your brain “you’re safe, happy, and connected,” which is why it feels so comforting and addictive. Don’t forget, your four-legged friends are always there to cheer you up!🐾

Huge thanks to Symonds-Madison Funeral Home for inviting us to this year’s Trunk or Treat! We loved having the opportunity to talk about dogs with local families and we had a blast decorating our trunk and handing out candy!

Blueberries may be small, but they are packed full of nutrients that not only benefit us, but our furry friends as well! Blueberries are kind of like a multivitamin for dogs, providing vitamin A, C, E, K, folate and choline. They also deliver some vital minerals such as calcium, iron, and potassium! Studies have shown that blueberries support brain health, gut and bladder health, heart health, and can even reduce irritation in the eyes. If possible, blueberries are a superfood that can be added to any dog’s diet, whether it’s part of regular meals, or just a tasty treat!
