Recall game one with Tucker in the big field.

Step one: put dog on a long line. Use a harness if your dog charges or runs to the end of the line before stopping.

Step 2: let your dog get distracted and forget about you

Step 3: Recall your dog

Step 4: if your dog comes back right away give a few rewards in a row. Then release with a specific word. I use "Free"

Step 4: if your dog doesn't come back. Reel the line in until your dog is right with you. Show them what they could have had. Allow them to get distracted again. Repeat Step 3

To build duration for your dog staying with you after they understand the game. Delay the reward for a few seconds longer each time.

Maple is working on disengaging from other dogs. Her turn away is great but her return is slow because she doesn't like crunchy grass. Lol

Tucker is building confidence with "Middle". He has learned this with a lure so I am now allowing him to learn it with minimal help. Allowing him to guess and not get told he is wrong allows him to be more comfortable trying new things. I will help him just enough so he doesn't get frustrated or too anxious.

In this video Zuri is increasing her Leave it skills. She is learning to ignore food being waved around and brought close to her face. This is the next level in teaching your dog not to grab food from hands or take what isn't being given to them.

Socialization is really important for all mamamals. We tend to think of it as playing or interacting directly with other people, animals and their environment but the reality is most socialization skills are learned in simply watching and not engaging.
Getting time to take in their environment and process everything coming and going without engaging or reacting is the skill every dog owner wants their dogs to learn.
In this video we are showing two dogs working on parallel walking and parallel processing. Helping them get comfortable with other dogs around and learning to ignore others to focus on their handler.

Neither of these dogs have done this before so you get to see exactly what it looks like with a dog with no previous training or experience.

Socialization is really important for all mamamals. We tend to thin...

Event update!

The food truck we had planned for the event on Sat 27th has backed out and it looks like rain so we are going to modify the event so we can host it inside.

We will have an obstacle course in the training center at Happy Hounds. Registration will start at 12:30. It will be $5 for a run through the obstacle course. We will go until we are done with entries. We will have prizes for Most stylish, Best team effort, Clean run and Puppies just want to have fun. Prizes will be awarded after the last entry. Must be present to win.

Between runs dogs will be able to hang out in the outdoor dog pens, daycare area or in your car if it is raining.
