💙 Meet Peregrin (aka Pippin or Peri)

A few weeks ago, a young budgerigar was brought to VESH after being found outside—cold, underweight, and in need of help. Our exotics team stepped in with warmth, nutrition, and plenty of TLC while we searched for an owner.

When no one came forward, Peri officially became the newest member of the VESH family. 💙

Now thriving, this curious little bird has already won over the hearts of our staff. Be sure to look for him when you visit our West Springfield location

Sometimes the patients who need help the most end up finding exactly where they belong.

Meet Roo, a sweet 4-month-old orange boy who came to us feeling very unwell with vomiting and diarrhea. He was diagnosed with gastroenteritis, which is an inflammation of the stomach and intestines.

He was supported in the hospital with IV fluids, anti-nausea medication, and probiotics. After some careful care and monitoring, Roo has made a wonderful turnaround—he’s now feeling brighter, eating on his own, and showing all the right signs of recovery.

He’s home, where he continues to heal, surrounded by the comfort and care of his family. 💛

“Kind, empathetic, quick to respond to my very sick kitten. He was taken well care of and was back to health in no time; I am so very grateful. What a great experience! I can’t express enough how kind the receptionists, the nurse, and the doctors were! So kind when a pet parent is in crisis! Thank you!” - Michelle D. 💛

Squidward & Chicken Nugget 🐱✨

Please welcome two of the newest members of the VESH family: Squidward & Chicken Nugget 💙

These special boys joined us in January this year, after being adopted from MSPCA-Angell. We specifically hoped to find kittens with special needs, and the moment we met Chicken Nugget and Squidward, we were in love.

Chicken Nugget is blind after suffering a severe eye infection early in life — but you would never know it by the way he explores the world with confidence and curiosity. While we were meeting him, staff introduced us to another little kitten who needed a home too… and Squidward stole our hearts instantly.

Together, they have brought endless joy, laughter, and energy to the hospital. If you’re checking in, checking out, or simply walking outside the building, you may catch them “helping” the front desk staff with their daily duties. 🐾

They may be tiny, but their impact on our team has been enormous.

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, the conversation doesn’t end here.

Supporting mental well-being in veterinary medicine is an ongoing commitment—one that extends far beyond a single month. By continuing to prioritize rest, connection, and compassion, we strengthen both our teams and the care we provide.

At VESH, we also recognize that this message extends to all animal welfare professionals—those in shelters, rescue, rehabilitation, and beyond. The work you do matters deeply, and so does your well-being.

Thank you to every member of our team and the greater animal care community for the dedication, empathy, and resilience you bring each day.

Bindi & Hazel 🐾

Meet two of VESH’s most dedicated team members: Bindi & Hazel 💙

Adopted together from Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center in 2022, this bonded pair quickly became an essential part of the VESH family. We knew we were looking for companions who could bring comfort and connection to our staff — and they have exceeded every expectation.

Both cats proudly serve as our official Emotional Support Cats, offering calm companionship during long shifts and difficult days. Bindi, especially, takes his responsibilities very seriously and is known for giving full hugs to staff members who need them most.

From staff meetings to interviews, these two are always eager to participate (or supervise). Their presence reminds us daily how much comfort animals can bring — not just to patients and clients, but to veterinary teams too.
