Another fun evening of puppy class at Kryder + Harr Veterinary Clinic! ❤️🐶

Puppyhood is such an important time for learning! Our classes go beyond teaching basic cues. We focus on helping puppies build confidence, develop good habits, and learn how to navigate the world around them.

Just as importantly, we teach owners how dogs think, learn, and communicate so they can build a strong relationship with their puppy from the very beginning.

If only changing behavior were as easy as a magic wand, a crystal ball, and a little pixie dust… 🪄🔮✨🤣

This week on Tail Talk at Kryder + Harr Veterinary Clinic Dr. Mariah Covey and I tackle the one thing every dog owner wishes existed … the quick fix!

Apparently, even Dr. Covey the Wizard and Jamie the Fairy Dogmother can’t make behavior change happen by magic. 🧙‍♀️🧚‍♀️😂🐾

Real behavior change takes time, consistency, and a good plan.

This made my day. ❤️

Lucy Too was a client of mine last year, and when her family reached out yesterday because she suddenly became afraid to go outside, I was able to coach them through what to do.

Her mom shared this update:

“We hadn’t seen Jamie since training last year but she responded immediately and told us not to force her out but to go outside, leave the door open and take some of her favorite treats out. It took a while but she very sheepishly ventured out and then ran right back in. Jamie checked in this morning and gave us more advice from kicking her favorite ball around to more treats. She’s still afraid, we’re not sure why so we’ll just try and make it fun. If you are in need of a trainer Jamie is the best!!!!”

Sometimes training isn’t about making a dog do something, it’s about taking the pressure off, working at their pace, and helping them feel safe enough to move forward. 🐾❤️

🐾 Training Tip: “Let’s Go!”

A FedEx truck happened to pull up while Urban was outside, and his reaction gave me the idea for today’s training tip!

“Let’s go” is a simple but really useful skill that teaches your dog to turn and move with you when you need to create distance from something that has their attention.

Don’t wait until your dog is already reacting to teach it. Practice when things are easy, reward them for turning and coming with you, and build the skill before you need it.

Then when real life happens, your dog already knows what “Let’s go!” means. 🐾

There is so much more to raising a puppy than teaching sit and down!

Puppy Class is designed to help you understand how your puppy learns, build the behaviors you want from the beginning, and give you practical tools for the everyday challenges that come with puppyhood.

We cover basic cues, potty and crate training, biting and jumping, handling and cooperative care, confidence and socialization, relaxation, enrichment, resource guarding prevention and more.

🐶 For puppies under 16 weeks
📅 Wednesdays • 6:30–7:45 PM
💲 $200 • 4-week class

New puppies can join the rotation as space is available.

A little nail trim practice with CC! 🐾❤️

This isn’t a “how-to” video. I’m not narrating or explaining what I’m doing. It’s just a real training session with a Lab puppy while I work on her nails and talk to her like I normally would.

Nail trims don’t have to be something we simply hold our dogs still and get through. I want puppies to learn from the beginning that handling and nail care are safe and predictable.

Watch CC’s body language, the use of food, the pace of the session, and the little breaks along the way.

The goal isn’t just shorter nails. It’s building a dog who feels safe participating in her own care. ❤️🐾
