The Rahmi Chronicles- The cone killer

You know from my previous post, he has been having a tough time with various cones, so the hard lampshade one has been on him. Today, he learned if he rams it very hard against his sister, running towards her at full speed it will bust open. He also learned the meaning of retaliation. Willa is fine and Rahmi is fine. Puppies are obnoxious. My adult dogs can correct within reason. Willa did not overcorrect. She did just fine, letting him know he was being a little jerk!
I put him back into the donut and decided to make him so tired that he won’t want to try to yank it off his head. I took him on a sniff walk in Patagonia. We also did some obedience in the park’s gazebo.
If you need to tire out your puppy, sniff walking in new place will do the trick. You want to let your puppy sniff and explore ( use a long line), you DON’T want to work on heel. Let him go be a dog and he’ll come home tired. We’ll work on heel next week when he’s out of the donut.

The Rahmi Chronicles- More Mr. Conehead stuff

Rahmi gets sutures out this Thursday! We are all so excited for him to get rid of that cone. In the meantime, we have done some teeth brushing, so he gets used to it, and we also started muzzle training. He’s such a friendly dog and very biddable, but when he is full grown at 120 pounds, I need to make sure he’s safe for everybody to handle and be around (I’m sure Dr. Humphrey & Dr Huang will agree). It is never too early to start muzzle training your dog. It normally takes me about two weeks of positive reinforcement training with yummy treats in the muzzle.
I wish the muzzle wasn’t so stigmatized.
If you’re interested, I most often prefer the Baskerville muzzle and always go with CET poultry flavored, enzymatic toothpaste. Both are found on Amazon and no, I do not get any kickbacks! They’re both products I’ve used for years.
On a different note, I’ve been using my long line a lot! Had several trips to the fairgrounds where he could just sniff and sort of run around, but still be in control of his control freak human (me). 
There are more socialization trips as well as teaching him the “load up” into the car command in the near future. Stay tuned!
