Update: we have written letters to both the BOS and the CPA Commission, and luckily for us we were able to catch it before July 1st deadline for funding reallocation! They helped us and voted to give us an extension! 🤍👏🏻☺️🐶

We want everyone to know that we just found out, without warning, that the Community Preservation Committee has taken all of our CPA money away. There will be no more dog park. It is out of our hands. This was something that cost NOTHING to taxpayers.

Our board has spent hundreds of dollars of our own money and many days and hours of time to make this happen — we dealt with the government shutdown before getting out very delayed nonprofit status, and then COVID hit so we had a very difficult time due to several factors. We kept the CPC up to date as to why it was taking so long and they always told us it was ok and they would hold out.

But they broke their promise.

Hi friends! As you know the IRS delayed our official 501c3 paperwork through the new year due to the government shut down last year. Shortly after we finally received it, so we could start fundraising, COVID happened. We cannot seem to catch a break. We still have the approved CPA funding that allows us to apply for supplemental grants, but our grant applications were also put on hold. Thanks for your patience as we work through this! We will keep everyone posted through this page once we get going hopefully soon! 🐾🖤🐾

Another milestone! 🐶

📑 We have an official lease agreement with the Town of Somerset! This week at the Board of Selectmen meeting they signed the official lease agreement between the town and our board of Somerset Dog Park, Inc.!...

💵 Now that we have 1) necessary funding from the town to show % of financial support and 2) a signed lease, we can continue to complete the grant application process!

🗂 While we apply for grants, we will be planning a small fundraiser to get things moving! This will help cover costs for insurance requirements since this is a 100% volunteer organization (and neither CPA nor grant funding can legally cover insurance costs).

Town meeting article for CPA funding for the dog park was APPROVED unanimously last night by the voters of Somerset! This funding will allow Somerset Dog Park 501c3 to sign a lease with the town and also to apply for additional grant money to create the dog park! We are moving forward!
