🐾❤️ FAVORITE CASE FRIDAY ❤️🐾

Meet Buster, a canine patient who came in with some concerning symptoms — straining to urinate and only passing small drops of urine. These can be signs of a urinary tract problem and are always worth taking seriously!

After a veterinary examination and diagnostic testing, we discovered bladder stones were the culprit. 🪨

Buster underwent a cystotomy, a surgical procedure to open the bladder and remove the stones. Our team was able to retrieve the stones and help get Buster back to doing what he should be doing — peeing comfortably again! 🎉💦

We’re so happy we could help this little guy get some relief! ❤️

Bladder stones can cause discomfort and, in some cases, a dangerous urinary blockage. If your pet is straining to urinate or producing only a few drops, don’t wait to call.

Here’s to feeling better, Buster! 🐾💙

Check out Buster’s before and after x-rays.

What breed of dog do you think Buster is?

🩻🐾 Veterinary Imaging: Then vs. Now!

Have you ever stopped to think about just how much veterinary imaging has changed over the years? The evolution of X-ray and ultrasound technology has transformed the way we diagnose and care for our furry patients!

📸 THEN: Traditional X-rays

* Film-based images that required chemical processing.
* Longer wait times to view images and determine if retakes were needed.
* Fewer options to adjust image contrast and brightness after processing.
* Ultrasound machines with lower-resolution images, bulkier equipment, and more limited capabilities.

💻 NOW: Digital Imaging

* Digital X-rays appear on a screen within seconds, allowing for quicker image review and fewer delays.
* Images can be enlarged, adjusted, stored digitally, and easily shared with specialists.
* Modern ultrasound provides much clearer, real-time images of internal organs, soft tissues, blood flow, and developing puppies and kittens.
* Portable machines and improved probes allow imaging to be performed in more settings, including exam rooms and emergency situations.
* Advanced features, including Doppler imaging and improved image processing, help veterinarians gather more diagnostic information without invasive procedures.

❤️ What does this mean for our patients?

Faster answers, more detailed information, improved diagnostic capabilities, and better-informed treatment decisions. While the fundamentals of X-rays and ultrasound remain the same, today’s technology allows veterinary teams to see more and work more efficiently.

From film and developing chemicals to instant digital images, veterinary imaging has truly come a long way! And as technology continues to advance, so do the possibilities for providing exceptional patient care. 🐶🐱

Then to now — better tools, clearer images, and more ways to care for the animals we love! 🐾

🌟 Who We Are Wednesday 🌟

This week is Certified Veterinary Technician, Crystal Miller.

Crystal was born and raised on her family farm in Clearfield County. After graduating from Curwensville Area High School, she went on to earn her Veterinary Technician degree from YTI in York, PA. She has been a Certified Veterinary Technician since 2020 and has been a valued member of our team since May 2023!

At home, Crystal shares her life with her two dogs, Bellatrix and Mazikeen, and her two cats, Ruby and Charles Weasley. When she’s not caring for patients, she enjoys camping, hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors with her family.

💚 A Little More About Crystal!

🦒 What is your favorite animal and why?

“My favorite animal is a giraffe! They’ve been my favorite for as long as I can remember. What can I say? They’re just absolutely stunning creatures!”

🐾 What is your favorite part of working in veterinary medicine?

“I love knowing that I can make a difference, whether it’s helping save a life, comforting a scared patient, easing an animal’s pain, or simply making a patient feel loved when they need it most. Sometimes, it’s the smallest moments that mean the most: a nervous patient finally relaxing in your arms, a sick animal beginning to feel better, or a patient who seems to recognize you and knows they’re safe. Those moments make what I do so rewarding!”

❤️ If you weren’t working in veterinary medicine, what would you be doing?

“In middle school and high school, I started tutoring and discovered how much I loved helping kids learn. I seriously considered becoming an elementary school teacher. But when I was little, I always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian and helping animals. Looking back, I definitely feel like I’m right where I’m supposed to be. I love what I do!”

Has your pet had a memorable experience with Crystal? Let us know in the comments! If not, still show Crystal some love.

📣Talk It Up Tuesday! 📣

🦷🐶 DID YOU KNOW? STINKY DOG BREATH ISN’T NORMAL! 🐶🦷

We know you love those puppy kisses, but if your dog’s breath could knock you over… it might be time to take a closer look! 👀

Bad breath is often one of the first signs of dental disease. Plaque and tartar build up on the teeth, bacteria accumulate, and the gums can become inflamed and painful. And here’s the tricky part: your dog can have significant dental disease even when they’re still eating, playing, and acting completely normal! Dogs are pretty good at hiding pain. 🐾

🩺 So why does Dr. Penny recommend a dental cleaning atleast every other year and dental X-rays?

It’s not just about making your pet’s teeth look pretty or getting rid of bad breath! It’s about PREVENTION. ❤️

🦷 Dental cleanings remove plaque and tartar that brushing alone may not be able to control.
🩻 Dental X-rays allow us to evaluate the parts of the teeth hidden beneath the gumline, where painful problems can go unnoticed.
❤️ Routine dental care helps us identify and address problems before they become more severe.

When dental disease goes untreated, teeth can become loose, infected, damaged, and painful. Sometimes, by the time a pet finally shows signs of a problem, multiple teeth may need to be extracted during the same procedure.

Our goal is to prevent your pet from reaching the point where they need half their mouth—or more—of teeth removed all at once. 😢 We would much rather help your pet maintain a healthy, comfortable mouth than wait until they’re hurting and have no other option but extractions.

And remember: pets don’t always stop eating when their mouths hurt. Just because they’re still finishing their food doesn’t mean their teeth are healthy!

🐶 Dental health is overall health, and prevention is always worth it. When your veterinarian recommends a dental cleaning and X-rays, they’re looking out for your pet’s comfort, not just their smile.

👇 Let’s talk in the comments! Have you ever been surprised by how many dental problems your pet had hiding beneath the surface? Or does your pet have breath that could clear a room? 😂 Tell us below!

💉🐾 THROWBACK THURSDAY: HOW VACCINES HAVE EVOLVED! 🐶🐱

Did you know veterinary vaccines have come a LONG way over the years? 🕰️❤️ Let's take a little trip through the history of protecting our furry family members!

🧪 THEN: Early vaccines were developed using the scientific methods available at the time. As veterinary medicine advanced, vaccines were created to help protect animals against serious diseases like rabies, distemper, and parvovirus.

🔬 NOW: Thanks to advances in science and technology, we have more refined vaccine formulations, improved manufacturing and quality control, and a better understanding of how pets develop immunity. Veterinarians can also tailor vaccination schedules based on a pet's age, lifestyle, health, and risk of exposure.

🐶 WHY IT MATTERS: Vaccination has helped prevent serious illness and protect countless pets. Today, veterinarians use research and current guidelines to determine which vaccines pets need and when they should receive them.

Even though the science has changed, one thing hasn't: we want to keep your pets healthy, protected, and by your side for as long as possible! ❤️🐾

👇 QUESTION OF THE THURSDAY: 💉🐾 VET MED TRIVIA! 🩺

Which statement about canine vaccines is TRUE?

A. Once a dog receives its puppy vaccines, it never needs boosters.

B. Every vaccine must be given annually to every dog.

C. Maternal antibodies can interfere with a puppy's response to vaccination.

D. Vaccines provide immediate, lifelong immunity after one dose.

Drop your guess in the comments! 👇 No Googling! 😉
