Congratulations to this round of group class graduates from our 101, 301 and 401 obedience classes! While our classes were smaller this time around, we still enjoyed to see the progress all pups and their handlers achieved over the past 10 weeks. They are now ready to showcase their new skills out in public and we cannot wait to see them return to continue their training with us in the near future.

The next round of obedience group classes starts on Saturday September 12th at our training facility and looks as followed:

Dog Obedience 101-Beginner @ 10am
Dog Obedience 201-Novice @ 11:30am
Dog Obedience 301-Intermediate @ 1pm
Dog Obedience 401-Advanced @ 2:30pm

In addition to our current obedience classes, our trainers are actively working on the development of a 501 class! This class will be open to successful graduates of our 401 class and we will be sharing more information soon.

Besides our 10-week obedience classes, we also offer some additional classes on the weekends:
Saturdays Puppy Preschool at 8:30am
Sundays Puppy Preschool at 10am
Trick Dog on Sundays at 11:30am - next round TBD
Canine Good Citizen on Sundays at 1pm - next round TBD

While we love seeing our puppies in our different group classes, we welcome anyone interested to reach out and join one of our upcoming group classes. No matter the breed or age of your pup, it’s never too late or too early to start training. Our trainers are also able to help place you and your pup in the most appropriate class for them. Some might not be able to imagine to walk more than one dog at once but that’s exactly what one of our trainers has been working on with some of our breeding dogs. The point of these pack walks is not for them all to become friends but rather for them to proof their obedience and manners out in the world as well as get some exercise. Working two dogs at once is not only a lot for the handler but also the dogs. For a lot of dogs, it takes quite a bit of self control to be able to work alongside another dog.

The first group our trainer worked with consisted of Selma, Quabs and Isa. Quabs is one of our breeding males and has bred both Selma and Isa in the past. While they are not currently in heat, they are both intact females. Yet, he is perfectly capable of walking alongside them.

The second group that got to go out consisted of Kati, Panta and Quaba. All three of these girls are mature intact females that have all had pups in the past. Statistically, intact females are the most likely to have conflicts. Kati for example is not a big fan of other dogs, especially females, but our trainer handled all three in a way in which she was able to tolerate both Quaba and Panta.

All this goes to say that dogs, intact or not, are more than capable of coexisting if you approach it right. It takes a lot of work from the handler and there always is a potential for conflicts but when it works out it is great for everyone involved.

Outings are not only fun but also a great way to proof your pups training. Having good obedience and manners in a controlled and predictable environment is one thing but out in the world there are so many distractions and other influences. That’s why part of both our Board & Train as well as Raise & Train programs include outings. Those outings can be short or long and to various places in our area. Sometimes they are one on one and sometimes our trainers will take out a group of dogs.

Recently, Tala, who is enrolled in our Board & Train program, and Mallen, who is part of our Raise & Train program, both got to on an outing to a close by trail. They got to work in tandem. Our trainer worked on good trail etiquette with a focus on calmly passing by strangers, children and other dogs with them. Both did amazing!

Our Board & Train and Raise & Train programs are designed to be individually tailored to the specific pup and can cover a wide range of things. This allows us to focus on what is important to you and what your pup needs. A few years back we opened up our boarding program to the general public. Prior to that we only boarded dogs that were born with us or were actively enrolled in our training programs which were almost exclusively German shepherds. When we made the switch, we knew we would start seeing a more diverse pool of dogs come through our boarding program.

While to this day a large chunk of our boarders are still shepherds as people seek us out due to our knowledge of the breed, we have been seeing more and more different dogs come through our boarding program which we love. We know the first time leaving your pup somewhere new can be stressful for you but we do everything in our power to ensure that they have the best time while under our care. Over the last few years, we have gained quite a few non-shepherd frequent flyers and love getting to see them so often.

These two pups are staying with us for the first time this week and have settled in instantly. They enjoyed getting out and stretching their legs on their activities.

When we import V Selma vom Hägerbrunnen exactly a year ago, we had no idea that she would become an instant staff favorite. She is all we dreamed off and a little more. Selma loves people and thrives on human interactions of all sorts.

As much as we love Selma, we knew that when we imported her we would only have her as part of our breeding program for a limited time due to her age. Selma does not look or act her age at all which can make it hard to believe that she will be 8 next May.

For her probably final litter we are planning on breeding her to V Goethe vom Zellwaldrand this fall for our P-litter. Selma has been bred by Goethe once before by their previous owners in Germany which resulted in the “vom Bachgeflüster” G-litter born back in June of 2024. Some of their offsprings from that litter are actively being shown and titled in Germany at this time.

If you are looking to add a shepherd to your family from a proven cross, this planned litter might be the right fit. Based on their previous litter and knowing them both well, we expect their offsprings to be on the more high drive side with a solid off switch if taught properly. Selma and Goethe are both extremely sweet and snuggly but when it is time to work they are all in. Appearance wise, Selma and Goethe both have very dark faces which carries over to their puppies. As Selma does not carry the long coat gene, all puppies are expected to be stock coated.

Proof that puppies are capable of so much more than humans believe they are!

This boy was born only 4 1/2 months ago to Selma and Quabs. When his family reached out to us looking for a very special pup, we were certain that he was the one. He ticked all the boxes for their needs and after meeting him it was decided: This boy was the one.

They chose to keep him with us and enroll him in our raise and train program which is designed to lay the foundations for a successful transition from us to the pups future families. The raise and train program gets tailored to address the needs of our puppies future families and can cover a lot of different aspects such as learning how to walk nicely on leash in different situations.

This pup inherited both the willingness and drive to work from Selma as well as the calmness and want to snuggle from Quabs making him perfect for his family. He has proven to pick up on things quickly and is eager to please in all he does. The other day he started to learn how to walk next to a walker in a calm manner which he did exceptionally well with for being so young. There is still so much more this young pup is capable of mastering. We cannot wait to see him thrive with his family very soon!

We would like to officially introduce our N-Litter! Nalllu, Nasssau, Nuggget, and Nanoook were born one week ago on June 13th to V Lillly von der Freiheit Westerholt and V Goethe vom Zellwalrand. These four puppies are full siblings to our C-Litter born back in January of 2025 and in honor of Lillly all got triple letter names.

These four may look calm and peaceful now but Lillly and Goethe are two of our breeding dogs with the most drive. There puppies inherited this which makes them perfect for active and experienced families that enjoy bonding through training with their new family member.

This is Lillly‘s last litter with us as she turned seven on June 6th and has officially retired from our breeding program. However, even with Lilly’s retirement her legacy in our breeding program does not end with this litter. Back in August of 2024, we imported her daughter V Panta von der Freiheit Westerholt from Germany as we knew that Lillly was only getting older and would retire eventually. All the dogs we have imported over the years, including Lillly and Panta, from the „von der Freiheit Westerholt“ kennel in Germany have a special place in our hearts.

Lillly as well as 3 of her pups are already spoken for. As of this moment we have one male still searching for his forever family.

It’s hard to believe that exactly one year ago, Quaba gave birth to 17 puppies, 14 of which survived birth. When the vets told us that they could see at least 15 pups on her X-ray the week before, we were in disbelief. The average litter size for German Shepherds is 6–8 puppies, so Quaba more than doubled that!

The first few weeks were challenging as we worked to make sure Quaba and all 14 of her puppies were healthy and thriving. While we did supplement feed some of the smallest puppies, Quaba did an amazing job caring for her pups and ensuring that every one of them was thriving.

We then had the fun task of coming up with 14 different names for her 14 little pups for their AKC registration. Some of them go by the name that we had given them to this day.

We can’t believe it’s already been a year, and we’re so happy to know that all 14 puppies found their perfect homes. We still get to see many of them in group classes or when they come back for boarding, and we love receiving updates on the pups who live a little farther away. Thank you to all of their families for giving them wonderful homes and for keeping us updated on how they’re doing. We love watching them grow up and thrive in their families!

Exciting news! If all goes as planned, we will be adding SG Chanel Von der Burg Königstein to our breeding program in the next few weeks. Chanel was born November 3rd, 2023 and holds a BH, AD, IGP1 and IGP2 training title. She does not only have a strong VA pedigree, she also traces back to Faiko‘s and Idol‘s dams which we are excited for. Both Faiko and Idol were breeding males for us that have since retired that everyone loved.

Chanel was breed to VA1 Brad Pitt del Vento Margio Team at the beginning of this month. Brad Pitt was born August 21st of 2023 and has a BH, AD and IGP 1 training title. Brad Pitt won the Hellenic Show in Greece last month and placed as a VA1 which is the highest possible show rating in the German Shepherd world. Just like Chanel he has an overall strong VA pedigree. Even though Brad Pitt is still young, he already has puppies placing high in confirmation events in Germany, Greece and the United States.

We should get confirmation from Germany regarding pregnancy in the next 2-3 weeks and expect Chanel to fly to Washington at the beginning of July. If she is pregnant, she will be due on or around August 4th with puppies going home in October. We have started taking reservations for this litter so if you are interested in a Chanel X Brad Pitt puppy, please reach out to us and we are happy to place you on the waitlist for this potential exceptional pairing.

Meet our current raise and train puppies! We currently have five active raise and train puppies, some of which have already found their forever homes.

Kimchi, who will be going by Stormy, is our oldest raise and train at this time and was born to Isa and Quabs back in February. She will be joining her new family tomorrow after completing two additional months of training with us!

Lambchop and Latte are siblings from our L-litter which is a repeat of our B-litter born back in 2024. Panta and Goethe together produce some amazing pups with great working brains just like these two.

Madden is our youngest raise and train pup and was born on Saint Patrick’s day. She has always been the calmest pup out of her 7 siblings and prefers to sit back and watch. Overall, Madden has always been on more of the less driven side compared to the rest of her siblings which is what made us choose her specifically. She is still at the beginning of her training journey but we cannot wait to see her thrive.

We also have Madden‘s brother Mallen with us for some additional training for his future family. He will be going by Koda and is making amazing progress already.

All of our raise and train puppies go home once their training is where we and their future families want it to be. This usually is around 5 or 6 months old but gets decided on an individual basis.
