Saddle fit is very important!

One term riders often hear when talking about dressage saddles is “twist.” But what does that actually mean?

The twist refers to the narrowest part of the saddle seat—the area between the rider’s thighs where the saddle passes over the horse’s back. It has a big influence on how a saddle feels to the rider.

Trilogy offers six different dressage saddle models, each designed with varying twist and seat widths to accommodate a wide range of rider shapes and sizes.

The shape of a rider’s pelvis, along with their natural hip angle, plays a significant role in which saddles will feel supportive and secure. When the twist width isn’t suited to the rider, a saddle can quickly become uncomfortable and make it more difficult to sit in balance.

That’s why fitting the rider is just as important as fitting the horse when selecting a dressage saddle. The right combination creates stability, comfort, and better communication between horse and rider.

Did you know that Prascend (and all forms of pergolide) tablets are unstable once taken out of their special nitrogen-filled foil compartment?

Some horse owners mistakenly take them out of the packaging ahead of time for convenience, which can lead to rapid degradation. Another dilemma is when horses are supposed to get a partial tablet. What's the best practice?

The very best option for storing partial pergolide tablets is to keep them in their original nitrogen-flushed blister packs until the moment of administration to prevent rapid degradation from light and other factors.

If a tablet must be split, store the unused portion in a small, sealed, dark container with a silica gel packet.

Store in Dark/Cool Location: Keep the container away from direct sunlight and in a cool, dry place (at or below 77°F/25°C).

Time Limit: Use the partial tablet within 24 hours to ensure effectiveness.

Alternative - Foil: Some owners tightly wrap the unused, halved tablet in aluminum foil and store it in a small, sealed container.

Do not pre-cut tablets for more than one or two days in advance.

Always good to remind people about this!

Here's your incredibly important blanketing season reminder courtesy of the horse doctors at Miamitown Equine Veterinary Services:

"When securing blankets, make sure that the snaps/clips are facing inward, toward the horse! If they are facing out, they can easily become stuck on something, like the hay net in the picture."

A question I often get is, “Do you only work on Trilogy saddles?”

The answer is no! I am more than happy to help fit most wool flocked saddles and help evaluate fit for those foam panels. I only carry Trilogy demos with me but the best fit for horse and rider is my priority and provided your saddle isn’t under warranty from another fitter or brand, I’m more than happy to help you with your saddle fitting needs.
