Michael Matz & Jet Run: A Legendary Partnership 🐎🏆
Michael Matz and Jet Run remain one of show jumping’s unforgettable horse-and-rider partnerships. Jet Run, a bay Thoroughbred by Jet Traffic, was originally bred for racing but became a superstar jumper instead. Matz began riding him in 1977, and the pair quickly rose to elite international success.
Together, they won team and individual bronze at the 1978 World Championships, team and individual gold at the 1979 Pan American Games, and the 1981 FEI Jumping World Cup Final in England. Jet Run was later inducted into the Show Jumping Hall of Fame in 1996, while Matz followed in 2005.
Their magic was more than medals. Jet Run had speed, scope, and heart; Matz brought calm precision and classical horsemanship. Together, they showed what true trust looks like over the biggest fences. ✨
After show jumping, Matz became a successful Thoroughbred trainer, famously training Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro and Belmont Stakes winner Union Rags.
Their story still inspires riders today: talent matters, but partnership makes legends. ❤️
