Adopt Don’t Shop? 🤔 Let’s Talk About It…

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t fully agree with “Adopt Don’t Shop.” Here’s why 👇

The “Adopt Don’t Shop” movement has been pushed more than ever — and while the intention is great, it’s not always the best fit for every person or family.

Many shelters, rescues, and adoption centers are realistically receiving backyard bred or genetically unstable dogs. Now — don’t get me wrong — there are AMAZING dogs that come from rescues ❤️ But there are also dogs that people adopt and unknowingly sign up for years of training just to help them become stable and comfortable in everyday life.

The truth is…
A lot of people wanting a dog aren’t necessarily looking for:
• Years of training
• Behavioral challenges
• Difficulty in public settings
• Ongoing management

And unfortunately, shelters and rescues aren’t always fully transparent. Their goal is to get dogs adopted (which I understand), but sometimes that means minimizing potential challenges or unknowns.

Another big issue?
Many adopters don’t receive adequate support after bringing their dog home. Suddenly, you’re in way over your head… but you’ve already formed a bond. Returning them feels heartbreaking, so you keep trying — even when it’s overwhelming.

You wanted a dog to do everything with…
Now you have a dog you have to do everything for.

I completely understand the heart behind adopting — and I respect it. But from personal experience, sometimes it can be far more than someone is prepared for.

In my opinion, well-bred, stable, predictable dogs are often worth the upfront investment.
Yes, they can be more expensive initially… but would you rather:
💰 Pay more upfront and have fewer issues long-term
OR
💸 Pay less upfront and potentially deal with endless training, behavior issues, and medical bills?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer — and that’s okay.

Do you support Adopt Don’t Shop?
Are you fully for it, against it, or do you just do what fits best for you?

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments 👇

When I said our price increase would also mean more regular walks — I meant it! 🐾

Even though we’re not in the most ideal location for walks, we’re still making it happen! And honestly… we’re getting some pretty adorable moments along the way 😍

Here are some cute photos from our recent adventures! 📸🐶

If your pup attends daycare, I try to make sure they get at least one walk per week (time permitting) — plus I do my best to snap some darn cute pictures while we’re out 🥰

‼️ Attention Current Clients ‼️

Starting March 23rd, 2026, we will be implementing a price adjustment for daycare, boarding, and some grooming services. This change is due to several factors, and I’m always happy to talk more about it if you have any questions or concerns.

This price update will apply to:
• All current daycare clients (even if we previously agreed on a different rate)
• All boarding clients
• Grooming services (some prices will stay the same while others will increase)

🐾 Updated Pricing

Training Clients (discount still applies):
• Daycare: $60/day
• Boarding: $80/day

Non-Training Clients:
• Daycare: $75/day
• Boarding: $95/day

What’s being added:

With this change, I’ll also be prioritizing daily walks for client dogs in addition to the playtime they already receive at the house.

• Daycare dogs: walks + playtime
• Boarding dogs: walks + playtime
• Later drop-off options will also be available for daycare clients who use pickup/drop-off services.

I’ll be updating the website soon as we get closer to the new pricing going into effect.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out so we can chat 🤍

Happy 2nd birthday to the best little problem child 🥹❤️

Denver came as a result of Finn’s passing and I truly needed a little extra something to get me going again. Denver did that plus some more. He’s probably been my most difficult dog purely because there’s not a single thought behind those eyes but he has no issues bringing laughter, pure joy, and chaos into the room.

He was an absolutely precious puppy and has truly grown into a whole unit of a dog 🤣

Prim has loved him since day one, Denver gave bear another wrestling buddy and Denver also makes it his life goal to torment Sarah for fun.

So here’s to many more years of pure chaos, not a single thought, no self preservation, and the most love a dog could give 🥹❤️

We love you sir der and are truly happy you’re apart of the pack ( even if you drive us crazy sometimes )

Be sure to scroll to the end for some ADORABLE baby Denver photos 🥹🥹

Strait is officially here to stay 🥹

He really said check yes or no and how could I say no to this precious boy ❤️

He’s your typical gsp, full of spit fire, dysfunction, and pure love for everyone and everything he meets.

Yes he’s a menace 🤣 no he doesn’t have any self preservation 🤦‍♀️ but he sure does know how to win your heart over within seconds.

Truly thankful to for giving me this absolute sweetheart, trusting me, and allowing us to forever call him ours now.

May he never again know what it’s like to be outside, or question whether he’s going to get another meal or not.

He’s safe, loved, and not going anywhere 🤣 5 dogs is crazy but I like crazy so it’s fine right? 🤣🤣

Reactivity Tips Part 2 🥳

Having a reactive dog doesn’t mean they have to be secluded from the world or their triggers. It just means we have to be a little more thoughtful about their outings and the company we keep ☺️

1️⃣ Reactive-friendly pack walks
One of my favorite activities for reactive dogs is pack walks specifically catered to them. Everyone understands the space that’s needed, dogs stay safe, and you get a great training opportunity. Plus, you can always create more distance if needed.

Finding a local pack walk like this can be incredibly beneficial and helps your dog learn how to stay neutral in new environments.

2️⃣ Train with neutral dogs
Another great option is finding a small group of people with neutral dogs. Dogs that can calmly coexist are ideal training partners.

If you plan outings with another reactive dog, there’s a high chance that if one reacts, the other will react right along with them. Neutral dogs help create a calmer learning environment where your dog can practice focusing on you instead of the trigger.

Start with distance and slowly close the gap as the dogs become more comfortable.

3️⃣ Meet your dog halfway
Take them places where triggers are unlikely to show up. Think forest service roads, Sniffspots, quiet parks, or less busy trails.

Let them run, sniff, play, and just be a dog without constant stress or management. Those decompression outings matter more than people realize.

Having a reactive dog teaches you a lot, and it’s always a learning process for both of you. But you’re not alone—and you can absolutely still have fun together ❤️

Reactivity training is never linear… and it’s SO easy to make subtle mistakes without even realizing it. ❤️‍🩹

Here are a couple common ones I see all the time:

▫️ Relying on obedience to prevent a reaction.
If you’ve got a reactive dog, you already know — asking for a sit while a trigger walks past doesn’t magically fix it 😅
In fact, holding a position while the dog/person gets closer often just builds those big feelings… and boom — reaction right as they pass.

Instead of planting them in one spot, think:
✔️ Create space
✔️ Keep them moving
✔️ Redirect those big emotions elsewhere

Tug, fun tricks, engagement games — something active and rewarding beats “boring obedience” in those moments every time.

▫️ Reward timing being slightly off.
This one is subtle but HUGE.

Scenario: your dog spots another dog. You say “yes!” or their name to pull them back.

The problem? If you mark while they’re staring, you may accidentally be saying, “Yes! That’s exactly what I want — keep looking at that dog.”

Instead:
➡️ Take a few steps back to draw them in
➡️ Wait for them to naturally disengage
➡️ THEN mark and reward

We’re reinforcing the choice to check back in with you — not the fixation.

If you have a reactive pup, you’re not alone. Truly. It takes time, management, and improving our own handling skills just as much as theirs. ❤️

If you need help with your dog’s reactivity, we’d love to support you.

I feel like it’s time to do a formal introduction for this special little freckled boy.

Everyone meet Strait, named after George strait. I was sent a post by saying they needed a foster for this 5 month old pointer, who had been kept outside his entire life. He was severely underweight and pretty beat up overall.

I can never resist a pointer so of course I reached out 🤣 and boy has he been a blast since he got here. He’s definitely an 8 week old puppy in a 5 month olds body and it’s quite precious.

He’s learning how to play with toys ( and my crocs apparently ), he’s learning he doesn’t have to search for food ( aka counter surf 🤣 ), he’s learning dog friends are nice and won’t always just bully him!

He’s the nosy neighbor 100%. He’s beyond nosy 🤣 and has to know what’s happening at all times. He loves doggie friends and even did amazing meeting our pack today.

If you know me well enough you know there’s a good chance this kiddo isn’t going anywhere. Consider me the worst foster ever 🤣🤣🤣

But it felt needed that he gets a proper introduction finally. Be sure to scroll through all the pictures to see how much weight he’s gained already. I’ll be posting more updates about this kiddo as he continues to learn life isn’t actually supposed to be bad 🥹

2 years ago we made the decision to foster fail miss sarah. A dog from Texas found on the streets that needed a second chance at life 🥹

Truth be told prim picked her, but I had no clue how fun this special little pup would be. She’s become my demo dog for training sessions, my free shaping MASTER, and overall just meshed into our family SO WELL. Her and prim have cuddled since day one and I don’t think that will ever stop.

Sarah may be missing a few connections in her brain but she’s made the connections within our little family 🥰❤️

Happy 2nd gotcha day Sarah Bo barah. May you forever wreak havoc and continue to be a spoiled little gremlin 🤣

🐾 Is your dog able to stay calm, attentive, and engaged in new environments?

If not — that’s totally okay! 🥳
The good news? This is a skill that can absolutely be taught.

New places are exciting! New smells, sights, sounds… it’s a LOT to take in. But with the right exposure and guidance, most dogs can learn to navigate it confidently.

One of my favorite recommendations is practicing in a variety of environments — not just parks, but also stores, cafés, trails, and busy areas. Reward your dog for simply choosing to engage with you, listening, and working through distractions.

And remember: not every outing has to be full speed 🐕💨
Try going to a park and just sitting. Let your dog observe the world without the expectation of constant movement. Calm neutrality is just as important as excitement.

Sometimes… it’s just time to work 😊

Did you know your dog decides what’s rewarding during a training session? 👀🐾

When people think of training rewards, treats are usually the first thing that comes to mind—but they aren’t always the best option.

Some dogs will work for treats and still seem flat, bored, or totally checked out. Others absolutely THRIVE on play, toys, or even a full-on praise party 🎉

A lot of the dogs I work with actually prefer a toy over food. Treats? Meh.
A BALL? Best. Reward. Ever. 🎾🔥

The key is figuring out what your dog finds motivating—and not being afraid to switch it up!

So tell me 👇
What does your dog work hardest for: treats, toys, praise… or all of the above?
