Brave Yankee K9 A strategic approach that prioritizes collaboration and partnerships to create value for community

Giving flowers 💐💐💐 to a highly respected dog trainer!

I met him along my journey and learned so much in just a few visits. But the best part? Finding out he’s from the exact same community in Sangre Grande, Trinidad 🇹🇹 that my family (the Moses family) is from—and he knew my grandfather, "PaMos," well! He even used to train dogs right in front of my grandfather's parlor.@

Such a small 🌎 world, and a reminder that it always pays to treat people right. Shortly after meeting him, I felt inspired and became much more comfortable with the idea of training dogs myself 🐕✨

Meet Tyril Frith: The Dog Whisperer of Prospect Park
If you spend time walking your dog around Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, chances are you have heard of Tyril Frith. Known widely by local pet parents as the neighborhood's very own "dog whisperer," Tyril has built a reputation for transforming how people communicate, connect, and live with their canine companions.
What makes Tyril’s approach so special isn't just his uncanny ability to read and understand dog behavior—it's his roots. Hailing directly from Sangre Grande, Brooklyn Settlement in Trinidad & Tobago, Tyril brings a unique warmth, intuition, and grounded wisdom to his training that resonates deeply with both dogs and their owners.

For Tyril, dog training has never been just about basic obedience or mechanical commands. It is about bridging the communication gap between species. Through patience, sharp observation, and a profound respect for the animal, he teaches owners how to listen to what their dogs are telling them. The result? A complete shift in household dynamics, turning frustration into harmony and confusion into mutual trust.

Whether you are struggling with leash reactivity, socialization, or just want to build a deeper bond with your four-legged family member, Tyril's methods leave a lasting impact.

Connect with Tyril Frith in the Prospect Park area to experience a whole new level of communication with your dog!

Bringing a dog into the family is incredibly exciting, but ensuring your child is truly ready is the secret to a safe, harmonious household.

Rather than focusing purely on age, look for these five (5) behavioral green lights:

1. Consistent Chore Compliance

👉🏾If you have to remind your child multiple times to brush their teeth, pick up their toys, or do their homework, they aren't ready for the daily, non-negotiable routine of a dog. Look for a baseline of responsibility where they can complete a task daily without constant micromanagement.

2. Respect for Living Boundaries

👉🏾Watch how your child interacts with other animals, or even when you tell them "no." A child who is ready for a dog understands that "stop" means stop. They should be able to recognize and respect boundaries—like leaving a pet alone while it’s eating, sleeping, or retreating to its crate.

3. Emotional Self-Regulation

👉🏾Dogs are incredibly sensitive to energy and high-stress environments. A child who still struggles with frequent physical outbursts, throwing items, or screaming when frustrated might inadvertently terrify a dog or trigger a defensive reaction. A readiness milestone is when a child can handle frustration calmly.

4. Acceptance of the "Unfun" Realities

👉🏾Most kids love the idea of playing fetch and cuddling, but the novelty wears off fast when it's raining outside or there's p**p to be scooped. Test their readiness by involving them in unglamorous tasks beforehand, or clearly outlining their specific, daily contributions to the dog's care.

5. Understanding that Dogs Aren't Toys
👉🏾A dog-ready child grasps that a puppy is a living, breathing commitment with feelings, bad days, and physical vulnerability. They need to understand that we don't pull tails, hug tightly around the neck, or treat the animal like a stuffed companion, but rather treat them as a family member who requires gentle respect.

So, your kid wants a dog. But are they ready? We break down how to know if your child is ready for a dog and what to expect of young kids.

If you’re always looking for natural ways to support your dog's well-being, you'll want to read this! 🐾

As dog owners, trainers, and handlers, we are always looking for ways to keep our canine partners feeling their absolute best—both physically and mentally.

Today, let’s talk about a powerful natural tool that is gaining a lot of traction in the working dog and active pet world: **Ashwagandha**.

If you haven’t heard of it, Ashwagandha is an "adaptogen"—an herb that literally helps the body *adapt* to stress and find its natural balance.

Just like us, our dogs experience physical and emotional stressors, whether it’s intense training, environmental changes, or just the aches that come with getting older.

Here are 3 major ways adding a bit of Ashwagandha powder to your dog's bowl can make a huge difference:

1. Calms the Mind (Without the Drowsiness) 🧠✨
Whether you have a high-drive working dog who has trouble settling down, or a pup who gets anxious during thunderstorms or travel, Ashwagandha can help. It works by regulating cortisol (the primary stress hormone). Instead of sedating your dog like traditional medications, it helps lower their anxiety so they can focus, train, and relax naturally.

2. Soothes Aches and Protects Joints 🐕💨
Ashwagandha is packed with natural anti-inflammatory compounds called withanolides.

For active dogs, sports dogs, or our beloved seniors, this means excellent support for sore muscles and stiff joints. It helps maintain mobility and speeds up physical recovery after a long day of tracking, hiking, or training.

3. Boosts the Immune System & Energy 🔋🛡️
By fighting off oxidative stress, this herb acts like a shield for your dog's immune system. It supports overall vitality, helps fight off fatigue, and promotes healthy endocrine (hormone) function, keeping their engine running smoothly.

⚠️ Quick Safety & Dosing Tips
Before you run out and scoop some into their supper, keep these rules of thumb in mind:

Start Small:** Always introduce new supplements gradually. A common guideline is about 1/4 teaspoon for small dogs, up to 1 teaspoon for large/extra-large breeds, mixed right into their food.

**Not for Everyone:** Avoid giving Ashwagandha to pregnant or lactating dogs, or pups with specific medical conditions like autoimmune disorders or severe stomach ulcers.

* **Quality Matters** Make sure you use a pure, organic powder with no added human-grade fillers, artificial sweeteners, or flavorings.

Have any of you tried Ashwagandha or other adaptogens with your dogs?

🤔Looking for a natural way to boost your dog’s health, mobility, and vitality?

Let’s talk about a game-changer: Golden Turmeric Paste. 🐾✨

If you have an active working dog, a sports canine, or a senior pup who is starting to slow down, this vibrant golden paste is one of the most powerful natural supplements you can add to their bowl.

Here is why Golden Paste (often called GP) deserves a spot in your dog’s daily routine:

🌟 The Big Benefits
Powerful Anti-Inflammatory: The active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin. It acts as a natural anti-inflammatory, making it incredible for relieving joint pain, arthritis, and stiffness.

Boosts Joint Mobility: If you're looking to support your dog's longevity and keep them moving fluidly during training or everyday play, this helps keep those joints lubricated and comfortable.

Chronic Disease & Immune Support: Curcumin is a heavy-hitting antioxidant. It helps neutralize free radicals, supports a healthy immune system, and promotes cardiovascular health.

Healthy Gut, Healthy Mut: Turmeric stimulates bile production, which aids in digestion and can help break down dietary fats more efficiently.

💡 The "Golden Rule" of Golden Paste:

You can’t just sprinkle dry turmeric powder on your dog's food and expect results. Turmeric has low bioavailability on its own, meaning the body has a hard time absorbing it. To make it work, it must be prepared as a paste with two crucial additions:

1 Healthy Fats (like cold-pressed coconut oil): Turmeric is fat-soluble. The oil binds to the nutrients, allowing the digestive tract to absorb it.
2 Black Pepper (Piperine): Black pepper contains piperine, which has been shown to increase turmeric absorption by up to 2,000%!

🥄 How to Start:

A little goes a long way. Always start small (about 1/4 teaspoon daily for medium/large dogs) to let their digestive system adjust, and gradually work your way up.

Have you tried Golden Paste with your dogs yet? Notice a difference in their energy or coat?

The biggest myth in dog training? That we only train the dog. 🐕‍🦺❌

If a trainer works with your dog in a vacuum, you’ll see results—but only when the trainer is holding the leash. True, lasting transformation happens when we shift the focus from "fixing the dog" to coaching the human.

Commonly, people think a trainer’s job is 100% dog-focused. In reality, the breakdown looks a lot more like this:

• 20% Teaching the dog new behaviors.

• 80% Teaching the owner how to maintain, reinforce, and communicate those behaviors.

Think of a dog trainer like a basketball coach. The coach doesn't run the plays during the game; the players do. Our job is to give you the playbook, the timing, and the communication skills so that your dog looks to you for guidance, not us. That’s why the most important part of our sessions isn't what happens on the leash; it’s what happens in your mindset.

Training isn’t a service you buy for your dog—it’s a language you learn together. 🤝
