"If you forget your roots, you've lost sight of everything"
I was reminded today of my roots....๐ณ
This morning I gave a lesson to one of my regular lesson kids who is a GREAT young lady (soon to be 12 in a few days).
As she was tacking her lesson horse she asked her Mom, "did you tell her yet?" Her mom said, "No, I didn't tell her yet." ....So, of course now I'm curious! ๐ค
I could definitely tell this kid was excited.... She told me she got a saddle! She continued to tell me it was given to her by a family friend whose Dad use to ride. The saddle was from the 1970s! I could tell she truly appreciated this gift given to her. They told me how they took it home and she cleaned it with a toothbrush. (They forgot to get a before pic). They even gave her the wooden stirrups, but she's going to get a new set for the saddle. Now she just needs to get a latigo and off billet. ๐ค
Moral of the story....
We all need to remember most of us didn't start out riding on saddles that cost as much as a used car, or on horses that are 6, 5, or even 4 figures!! Most of our roots are just like this.... Someone giving us the stepping stones to this lifestyle. We didn't care (or maybe even know) about the high end stuff... We just wanted to ride horses... Because we LOVE Horses!! ๐ซถ๐ผ๐ค
I think we all need to be reminded of this from time to time. ๐ค
Pics below are of the saddle all cleaned up, and of the original owner riding in the saddle! ๐ค๐ผ
