I committed to Eclair and her 4 puppies with USS Bear in early August. Kai Rose fostered the small family and then transfered to WCCCR when I got back from my transport.
When Kai pulled them, Eclair had 9 puppies, but 5 were lost to the shelter. She nurtured 4 puppies aroind the clock, but the two remaining females faded.
Mamma Eclaire is too young, and was too stressed amd too sick with kennel cough to feed her puppies, so the only way was to tube feed then bottle feed.
When I took Mamma and the two boys, I was confident in myself. I knew the dedication it would take but I knew I could do it.
Kennel cough set in - with the boys. Mamma went to Quaratine with a Foster while I worked with the boys, every two hours around the clock. Day in and day out for 2 weeks. Their eyes opened, though the were snotty and struggling at times, they started to bumble around.
Then blue baby plummeted, and I still thought there was hope, but then after fluids and a solid meal, he left us.
Leaving his Brindle brother. As sad as it was, we carried on. His nose cleared up, his eyes opened wider every day and he got fat.
We named him Itsy Bitsy Spider. Because he was determined to go up the waterspout - figuratively of course. He triumphed through his hardships and was determined to keep pushing.
Then. Between feedings, for no apparent reason. We found him dead in the incubator. I believe he had a heart issue, as is so common in our breed, especially from dogs bred carelessly by careless people.
Eclair is the last one of her small family. Her milk has dried up and I'm not sure she carries any trauma from the loss, as she showed no interest in the babies. Hell,she is a baby herself.
In rescue, we are a part of trauma. We see things and hear things every day that destroy us. It takes time to process, yet, everyone demands updates from situations we are healed from.
So we suck it up and carry on- after all the show must go on.
Please say a prayer for the little lost babies. They were too good for this world.
