Peony update!

Sad news to report. Our peonies, along with most peony farmers in the Midwest down to Kansas were affected by a late freeze resulting in 'bud blast'. Plants are deformed with black buds and leaves that fall off. Probably about half of our plants were affected.

We are totally bummed as we expected a wonderful harvest this year with our plants all another year older

As a result, the only peonies we will have this year will be for our our peony subscribers.

Plants should come back next year fine I'm told 🤞

Here's the first Peony variety starting to bloom which will make its way into subscription bouquets next week!

We are in the thick of planting season! No glamorous photos here but it's the literally dirty work that will result in armfuls of flowers starting in July 💐

Today, we finished up planting all of our dahlia tubers - about 750. Our biggest year to date. Next week about 220 dahlia cuttings plants are also going in. August and September is going to be amazing around here!

Dahlia planting has commenced!

This will be our biggest year yet - about 700 dahlia tubers and 300 cuttings are going in over the next week. The first 250 tubers were planted on Sunday. Because they are planted about 4-6 inches deep, these chilly nights will not affect them. The cutting plants (and the thousands of other summer annuals) will need to wait at minimum another week until it warms up around here (!)

We are planting by color:

white/blush
pink
peach
coral/raspberry
Orange
Yellow-
Redd/burgandy
Purple

We have the most volume of white/blush, pink, and burgundy (events like weddings).
..And orange because I'm obsessed with orange dahlias!

It's almost planting time!

Do you love Dahlias like we do? We are excited to announce that we are offering dahlia plants in 3 inch pots, propagated using our own tuber stock over the late winter / early spring.

Dahlia plants versus tubers avoid the worry about tubers sprouting or not and give you earlier flowers 🌹

Plants are available for purchase on our web site - $15 & $10, depending on the variety.

Varieties are listed on a drop down menu and not by picture. Dahlia officianados will know, but if not a simple Google search will show you the variety color and form.

Pick up is in Slinger between May 8th, 9th, or 10th. All the details are found on our website.

Those dates don't work? Reach out and I'll see what I can do

Sweet peas went over the weekend - they thrive growing in cooler conditions so we really had to get them in the ground. Last week's daily rain and storms meant it had to be pushed to this weekend.

We should see (and smell! ) them starting mid June. Subscription holders will get a full bouquet in their subscriptions. You WILL fall in love with them 🌿

April is one of our busiest months as we are managing a lot of seed starting and seedling management.

One of our primary flower crops are dahlias. Dahlia stock is increased by digging up the multiplied tubers in October (and storing them until May of the next year). However, some varieties are stingy with tuber production so an additional way to increase different varieties is by propagation. This involves taking leaf cuttings from tubers that have been positioned to 'wake up' and encouraging the leaves to produce roots for by placing them in soil, in humid conditions.

We are working on this propogation from March - May. Below are the different stages of propagation from cutting to rooted plant.

We will have at least a few hundred plants when it's over! We may be having a dahlia plant sale in May if we continue to have the success we are now. 🪴

Did you know we offer DIY flower buckets for weddings? They are also a great choice for baby and bridal showers or other events that would be elevated with fresh, local flowers.

We offer this option for people who want beautiful flowers at their event, but don't want to pay the hefty florist price tag!

Buckets are $135 and contain 70-90 stems. Our buckets are curated with flowers and greenery that pair well together. Grab some friends and make the arrangements together, or do it yourself!

Curious on how our setup works?

Our web site contains all the details including an inquiry form. Take a peek here 👇

Events are limited each month - August in particular is filling up so if you are giving it some thought, you might want to inquire sooner rather than later 🌿

We now have a blog!

We want to share our knowledge of growing cut flowers so that you too can grow your own bouquets 💐

Our first topic is how to propagate dahlias by taking 'cuttings' from overwintered tubers.

Now is the time to start that process for August /September blooms!

Just 48 hours left to purchase your flower subscription!

Since we opened the subscription store, many of you have purchased subscriptions, including so many returning customers. This means a lot to me 💕

There are still some subscription spaces remaining, and the store will be closing this Wednesday, March 25th.

I limit the sign up period so I can plan the rest of the season's flowers - including blooms for local florist sales and our DIY wedding and event flowers

If you have been thinking about purchasing a subscription, now is the time
