Bear needs a hero.

And he needs that hero before his time runs out.

Bear was adopted as a puppy from the Pennsylvania SPCA’s Philadelphia headquarters in 2012. He lived in his adoptive home for nearly 14 years before returning to our care at the end of August.

The truth is, Bear is old. And, he has so many ailments that come along with that. He has hypothyroidism, deafness, visual impairment, arthritis, a heart murmur and suspected cushings.

In his final days in his adoptive home, he made a mistake and nipped one of his owners. That doesn’t make him a bad dog, it makes him an old one who may not hear or see cues from his people.

But, Bear has been nothing but a gentleman in our care. He’s easygoing and mostly just wants to nap. He’s a good boy.

Right before this post, Bear left for a foster home, but he’s still looking for a hospice forever home. One that can help control his pain, work on his weight loss, and ensure he has access to veterinary care for his final days, weeks, months or maybe even years.

We aren’t giving up on him. We hope you won’t either. Email [email protected] to meet him.

COCO the Havanese puppy is our newest addition to the Daycare Club. He's in good paws (hands)around these seasoned members, Violet, Ruthie, Buddy and Daisy.
Learning to navigate the ramp for a good position in the pack. He will do just fine.

Today is National Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day

The pain of loss is real. As each person travels through their grief of losing a pet, we remember the companionship and comfort our pets provided to us. Don't forget that part of the relationship included care provided by you. The empty space left by the loss of a beloved pet is sometimes a difficult void to overcome.
In remembrance, celebrate the home you provided and the joy your beloved pet brought you in return. When you are ready, you will know the time has arrived to find a new 'critter' to replace the emptiness felt. There are many animals yet to find a home. In time, you can be their new home.
Peace and love
