🚨 Public Service Announcement for Sitka Dog Owners 🚨

Our veterinary clinic has recently treated several dogs that became seriously ill after enjoying time on Sitka beaches. So far, specifically Back Beach and the Tom Young Cabin.

The dogs developed signs including:
🐾 Acting "drunk," stumbling and having difficulty walking
🐾 Extreme sleepiness or being difficult to wake
🐾 Being unusually jumpy or overreacting to sounds and touch, especially around the face
🐾 Muscle twitching
🐾 Slow heart rate

While we expect all of these dogs to recover with veterinary care, they do require close monitoring.

We suspect the illnesses may be related to medications or other substances that can be present in human waste. Unfortunately, dogs don't know to avoid these hazards and are naturally curious scavengers.

Please help keep your dog safe:
• Keep your dog on a leash or under very close control while on local beaches.
• Prevent them from eating human or wildlife f***s or any unknown material.
• If your dog suddenly becomes wobbly, excessively sleepy, twitchy, or starts acting strangely after a beach outing, seek veterinary care via VetTriage if you are concerned.

We also ask everyone enjoying Sitka's beautiful beaches to properly dispose of or pack out human waste. It helps protect our community, our children, our wildlife, and our pets.

Thank you for helping to keep Sitka's dogs safe and have a safe 4th of July holiday! ❤️🐕

IMPORTANT UPDATE: New Clinic Hours

Dear Clients,

We wanted to let you know about an upcoming change to our clinic schedule.

Beginning Monday August 3rd, our clinic will continue operating on a 4 day, 10 hour workweek, but our regular day of closure will be changing from Wednesday to Monday.

NEW HOURS:
Tuesday-Friday: 7:00am-6:00pm
Saturday-Monday: CLOSED

This adjustment allows our team to continue providing the best care possible while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. We appreciate your understanding and continued support. If you have any questions or need to schedule an appointment, please contact us during regular business hours.

🎆PLEASE ALSO NOTE:

Our clinic will also be closed July 13th-17th. If your pet will need medication refills during that time, please plan ahead and contact us before the closure.

With the Fourth of July approaching, now is the perfect time to request any anxiety medications or sedatives your pet may need for fireworks. Don't wait until the last minute- give us a call so we can make sure your furry family members are prepared!!

Thank you for trusting us with your pets care!

In order for us to maintain the same level of high caliber care you have come to expect, we are changing the way you reach us for after hours emergency care.

As most of you know, our island community is unique, and currently only two veterinarians help provide emergency veterinary coverage for the entire area. Through a collaborative effort between local hospitals, we remain committed to keeping emergency veterinary services available for our community while continuing to grow and strengthen access to care.
We are actively bringing in additional veterinary support and are excited to add another layer of care for our clients through our partnership with VetTriage.
VetTriage is a convenient after-hours veterinary telehealth service that allows pet owners to connect with a licensed veterinarian by video when our clinic is closed. Their team can help assess your pet, provide guidance and peace of mind, and determine whether immediate emergency care is needed or if monitoring safely at home until regular business hours is appropriate.
If your pet is experiencing a true emergency, VetTriage will help coordinate directly with the on-call veterinarian.
This expanded service helps us:
• Improve access to after-hours veterinary guidance
• Keep emergency services available for urgent cases
• Provide timely support and peace of mind for pet owners
• Continue building sustainable veterinary care for our island community
