💙🐾 YOU’RE NOT ALONE. 🐾💙
September is Su***de Prevention Month.
At All City Pet Care South & ER, we care for more than just the pets who walk through our doors. We care about the people, too. ❤️
Veterinary medicine is an incredibly rewarding profession, but we also know it can be incredibly demanding. Long days, emotional cases, difficult conversations, compassion fatigue, burnout, and the weight of caring so deeply can take a toll. The veterinary profession has a higher risk of su***de than many other professions, which is why conversations about mental health and asking for help are so important.
And this message isn’t just for the people who come through our doors.
It’s for the people wearing the scrubs. The people answering the phones. The people holding the leash. The people caring for the patients. The people cleaning the kennels. The people staying late. The people who seem like they have everything together. The people who spend their days taking care of everyone else.
It’s for all of us. 🫶
Sometimes the person who needs someone to ask, “Are you okay?” is the person standing right next to you.
So if you’re struggling, overwhelmed, exhausted, or just not feeling like yourself, please know that you can talk to us.
If you happen to be visiting our hospital and need someone to listen, we want you to feel comfortable saying so. You don’t need to have the right words. You don’t need to explain everything. You can simply say, “I’m not okay,” and we’ll meet you there.
We may not have every answer, but we can listen. We can care. We can help you find the next step.
And for those in veterinary medicine: please remember that you are more than your job. You are more than the cases you couldn’t save, the difficult shift, the mistake you’re replaying in your head, or the day that felt impossible. You deserve support, rest, compassion, and someone in your corner, too. 💙
Please check in on your coworkers. Check in on your friends. Check in on the person who has been unusually quiet. And don’t be afraid to ask someone directly how they’re really doing.
📱 If you or someone you know needs immediate support, call or text 988 to connect with the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.
You never know what someone may be carrying behind the scenes.
A simple “Are you okay?” can open a door.
A conversation can make someone feel less alone.
And asking for help is never something to be ashamed of.
From all of us at All City Pet Care South & ER:
We’re here for you. Your pets matter to us, and so do you. 🐾💙
