This is a really great explanation of why your pup might be super excited to come into the salon yet start shaking the moment they come in or realize what is going on!

Why is my dog shaking? They must be terrified! 🥺 Can we bust a major biological myth? 👇

​If you own a smaller breed, especially a Toy Poodle, Maltese, or Chihuahua, you have likely seen them turn into a little vibrating washing machine the moment they walk into the vet clinic, a busy park, or the grooming salon.

​As pet parents, our hearts instantly sink. We assume they are frozen in pure terror or experiencing trauma.

​But biologically? You might be completely misreading the room.

​Welcome to "Psychogenic Tremors" (aka: The Sports Car Effect) ​Smaller breeds possess a naturally high metabolic rate and an incredibly sensitive nervous system. Their internal engines essentially "idle" at a much higher RPM than a big Golden Retriever.

​When they enter an environment where they know a specific routine is about to happen, their brain instantly releases a massive wave of adrenaline and cortisol. This isn't automatically a sign of fear, it is pure anticipation and hyper-focus.

​Because they have such tight, compact little muscle masses, that sudden, explosive surge of kinetic energy has nowhere to go. Their nervous system processes this sudden backlog of internal electricity by shivering to safely burn it off.

​Think of it like this: It is exactly the same as a human getting intense butterflies, a racing heart, or shaky hands right before they step onto a stage to give a big speech or ride a roller coaster. They aren't in physical danger or pain; their body is just firing on absolutely all cylinders to prepare for what’s next! ⚡

​The moment they get into their rhythm and that adrenaline naturally flushes out of their system, the vibrations stop.

​So the next time your little one starts to shiver at check-in, take a deep breath. They aren't broken, and you shouldn't feel guilty, their little sports car engine is just revving up! 🤍

Just a friendly reminder for all of my amazing clients — my last working day before maternity leave will be June 23rd. 🤍

June appointments are filling up quickly and availability is becoming very limited. If your pup is due for grooming before I leave, I highly recommend getting scheduled in advance as soon as possible to secure a spot.

As always, availability can vary depending on your dog’s size, coat condition, and services needed.

I may also need to limit or reduce appointments for larger breeds depending on behavior, handling needs, and how they do during the grooming process.

Thank you all so much for keeping me busy and supported during this special season of life. I truly appreciate every single one of you and your pups!

As I prepare for maternity leave, my schedule is quickly filling up with my amazing regular clients 🐾

At this time, I won’t be able to take on any new grooming clients. My focus is making sure my current pups are taken care of and on a consistent schedule before I step away.

I truly appreciate your understanding and support during this special season. I’ll be sure to update everyone once I’m back and accepting new clients again 💛 I will also be looking to add a groomer when I return to service many more furry friends!

Please keep in mind that posted appointment times are always subject to change. Availability can vary depending on your pup’s size, coat condition, behavior, and the services requested.

Because of this, a time slot you see available may be booked within minutes—even if the post hasn’t been updated just yet. If you see a time that works for you, I recommend reaching out right away to secure it.

As the sole owner and groomer, I also spend my time outside of the salon with my family, and the salon is closed Sundays and Mondays.
I do my best to respond and keep availability updated as quickly as possible during business hours.

At Tidy Tail, we keep things clean… and flea-free 🐾

Avoid the Flea Fee!
Please make sure your dog is on a flea preventative (and preferrably flea-free) before coming to the salon.

Why it matters:
Fleas aren’t just annoying—they can cause itching, skin infections, allergic reactions, and more.
They spread easily from yards, other animals, and even into your home.

Salon Policy Reminder:
Dogs arriving with fleas will be subject to a flea treatment fee to protect all pets in our care. Our shampoo is all-natural, and MAY only kills live fleas—it does not prevent them or completely rid them.
Continued treatment at home is strongly recommended.
