Do your cats have definite preferences when it comes to resting spots or do they sleep in a variety of locations? Some cats have strong preferences about whether they remain visible or hidden during naptime.

Most advice about calm makes calm sound complicated. Breathing techniques, morning routines with a dozen steps, an entire industry built around relaxing harder.

The older version of this wisdom is almost embarrassingly simple. Do less. Do it slower. Put a little space between the things you are already doing. That is most of it.

Here are twelve small shifts worth trying, one at a time.

Do one thing at a time instead of splitting your attention across five. Do it slowly and deliberately instead of rushing to the next item. Do it completely instead of leaving it half finished in your mind. Do less overall, on purpose. Put space between things instead of stacking them back to back. Develop small rituals and set aside real time for the things that matter. Devote a few minutes to simply sitting, without a task attached. Smile more, and look for small ways to serve the people around you. Let cleaning and cooking become a kind of meditation instead of a chore to rush through. Think honestly about what is actually necessary. And live simply, on purpose, instead of by accident.

None of these require a retreat or a new set of equipment. They require slowing down enough to notice you have a choice in how you move through an ordinary Tuesday.

Choose one of the twelve for today only.

Do that one thing slower than you normally would.

Notice what changes when you give it your full attention.

Calm was never about doing more to relax. It was about doing less, more completely.

🐶 10 THINGS YOUR DOG'S TAIL IS ACTUALLY TELLING YOU

Your dog's tail is more than just a happy wag.

It's one of the clearest ways they communicate how they're feeling.

Here's how to understand what they're trying to tell you.

1. Fast, wide wag

"I'm excited to see you!"

Usually means your dog is happy, friendly, and eager to interact.

2. Slow, gentle wag

"I'm unsure."

Your dog is assessing the situation and deciding how to respond.

3. Tail tucked between the legs

"I'm scared."

This is a sign of fear, anxiety, or stress. Give them space and reassurance.

4. Tail held high and stiff

"I'm feeling confident."

This can signal confidence, alertness, or that your dog is asserting itself.

5. Tail wagging high and very stiff

"Back off."

A rigid, high wag can be a warning sign of tension—not friendliness.

6. Tail straight out behind

"I'm focused."

Your dog has noticed something interesting and is paying close attention.

7. Tail wagging mostly to the right

"I'm feeling positive."

Research suggests dogs often wag more to the right when relaxed or seeing someone they like.

8. Tail wagging mostly to the left

"I'm uncomfortable."

Some studies suggest left-biased wagging may be linked to caution or anxiety.

9. Tiny, quick tail flicks

"I'm curious."

Your dog is interested in what's happening and gathering information.

10. Tail completely still

"Watch me closely."

A motionless tail—especially with a stiff body—can mean your dog is intensely focused or may be feeling threatened. Pay attention to their overall body language.

❤️ Remember: Never judge your dog's mood by the tail alone.

Look at the ears, eyes, posture, facial expression, and the situation around them. Dogs communicate with their whole body.

The better we understand them, the stronger the bond we build.

If your newly adopted cat is fearful, has been through a trauma, or just needs to take things slower, it's important for you to let the kitty set the pace. It's natural to want to immediately shower the new cat with love but it can feel overwhelming. Go at a gentle pace.
