Siouxland Humane Society Open admission full-service shelter finding forever homes for 100% of the adoptable pets A world in which animals are not abused or neglected.
(862)

A community where every pet is cared for by responsible and loving people. That is our hope for the future. Until then, the Siouxland Humane Society works each and every day to help all types of animals through our many programs and services. Here are some highlights! Through our adoption/surrender program we provide shelter, food and veterinary care to nearly 3000 pets each year. We find forever

homes for 100% of the adoptable pets left in our care. Our adoption program has reasonable adoption fees that include preventative vaccinations, deworming, microchipping and a free veterinary visit. The Siouxland Humane Society works cooperatively with law enforcement to bring justice for all animals. We assist law enforcement with investigation and prosecution of abuse and neglect cases. We also engage in selected advocacy activities through legislative and judicial processes. We promote an appreciation of the human-animal bond through education and outreach programs to schools, youth and senior groups and civic organizations. We regularly visit many nursing homes and residential facilities and we educate thousands of children every year about responsible pet care, the humane treatment of animals and stress the importance of spaying & neutering. Low income persons or those with a hardship can depend on us for help. Spay/Neuter assistance programs include SHS adopted pets, non-SHS adopted cats and Spay the Mom Cat for those with kittens. A program pays initial veterinary exam fees for pet owners with an injured pet, who cannot afford it. We provide shelter for animals whose family’s home has been destroyed by fire or those needing a safe haven while their family resides in a domestic violence shelter. The SHS provides pet food for those needing food for their pets. When people have hard times and need help, we are here! The Siouxland Humane Society offers competitively priced cremation services. Pet Loss Support is available to help young and old alike cope with the loss of a beloved pet. Pet microchipping and registration are available at a nominal fee at the Shelter. We also sell pet toys and supplies with proceeds helping to operate the Shelter. People unable to adopt can make a difference to pets in our care through the Sponsor a Pet Program. A donation to sponsor a pet helps harder to place pets find new homes. The Senior Pet Program matches hard to adopt loving pets to senior citizens. They may be older or simply overlooked. These pets are perfect for seniors who don’t want to deal with puppies or kittens. Breed Rescue moves animals both in and out of the Shelter. When space permits pets are brought into the Shelter. When needed we send them out to other shelters or rescue groups. Without the help of our volunteers we would be unable to meet our mission or operate the Shelter. Our “Best Friends” are a group of volunteers who donate their time and talent to our programs such as In Shelter Animal Care, Fundraising, Education, Advocacy, Pet Therapy, Foster Care and Outreach Programs. They all have one thing in common – a love of animals. This is a page for supporters of the Siouxland Humane Society. Tank Has Some Things To Say!

And trust us… he WILL say them.

Meet Tank! This handsome 3-year-old Beagle/Lab mix may seem a little shy when you first see him in his kennel but get him out and give him a minute – that personality comes out fast!

And so does the Beagle in him.

Tank is a TALKER. Happy? He’ll tell you. Excited? You’ll hear about it. Thinks you should be paying attention to him? Oh, you’re definitely going to know. This boy has feelings, opinions and apparently no reason to keep any of them to himself.

His other great love in life? Squeaky toys! The squeakier, the better. Give this boy something he can squeak approximately 847 times in a row and he is living his best life.

And can we talk about those EARS! Once Tank gets to playing, those things are cleared for takeoff. We’re pretty sure with enough speed and the right gust of wind, this guy could achieve flight.

He is housetrained, great with kids and other dogs, and just needs a home without kitties, please.

If your house could use a little more personality, a whole lot of love and your own four-legged commentator, Tank is ready to fill the position. Just make sure the squeaky-toy supply is fully stocked.

A Face Only Everyone Could Love!

Tarzan has a face that says, “I am deeply unimpressed with everything you’re doing.”

We’ve heard Grumpy Cat vibes. We’ve heard he could be the inspiration behind a new Fuggler toy with those big, wide green eyes. We’ve heard a little bit of everything. Whatever you see, one thing is certain – Tarzan has a face you’re not going to forget. And it’s even more impressive in person!

But don’t let that permanently unimpressed expression fool you. This boy is an absolute LOVE BUG. He would happily let you love on him all day long if you’d be so kind. If you’ve got hands available for petting, he has plenty of time to accept your services.

Tarzan is about 1 ½ years old, neutered and one seriously laid-back, mellow dude. His past is a bit of a mystery, so we aren’t sure yet how he feels about kids or other pets. What we do know is that with people, this boy is nothing but sweetness.

And apparently, Tarzan likes to nap ON HIS FACE. Just like our Pooh Bear! We have photo evidence, so yes, it absolutely happened. Apparently normal sleeping positions are simply not for everyone.

He may look like he’s judging every decision you’ve ever made, but really, he’s just wondering why you stopped petting him.

Come meet Tarzan – for the face alone, honestly. Stay for the absolute sweetheart behind it. Then do the obvious thing and take him home already!

THEN ➡ NOW

Well, look who grew up!

Koda and Zeus have both been through our doors before, which means we had a little something tucked away in the archives... their puppy picture! And obviously, we had to do a Then & Now.

Koda is going on 4 years old and has grown from an adorable little pup into an equally adorable big girl. She is housetrained and does well with cats, dogs and older kids.

Zeus is now 4 years old and apparently decided growing up meant getting even more handsome. He is housetrained and crate trained, loves kids and can do well with other dogs with proper introductions.

They've done a lot of growing up since those puppy pictures, and now they're both ready to see what comes next in this new chapter!

TURTLEY IS LOOKING FOR HIS NEXT ADVENTURE! 🐢

Not every adoptable face around here has fur! Meet Turtley, our approximately 2-year-old African Mud Turtle (best guess) who is ready to find a home of his own.

Turtley is looking for someone who has done their turtle homework and is ready to provide him with the proper habitat, diet and care he needs to live his best little turtle life.

He may not greet you at the door or curl up on the couch, but he’s got plenty of personality packed inside that shell!

If reptiles are your thing and you’ve got room in your home for one very handsome little dude, come meet Turtley!

WE INTERRUPT YOUR SCROLLING...
.. to bring you this smile!

Garfield would like everyone to know that yes, he really is this adorable.

This handsome boy is 1 year old, neutered, and good with kids and other pets. He's got the big eyes, the sweet personality, and apparently the cutest grin to top it all off.

Okay, you may continue scrolling now... unless, of course, you need to come visit Garfield first. 😉

$1,600 Raised for the Pets!

Now that is one awesome group! A huge thank you to everyone who participated in and donated during Rooster's Harley-Davidson Rowdy Night Fun Run!

Together, they raised an incredible $1,600 for the pets here at the shelter!

And they didn't just ride for the pets - they even made the shelter one of their stops along the way! We loved getting to see everyone roll in and having the chance to thank some of the amazing people supporting our animals.

To Rooster's Harley-Davidson, all of the riders, and everyone who donated: THANK YOU! Your generosity and support mean so much to us and the pets we care for.

What a fun way to make a difference!

Handsome Hades Is Ready To Steal Your Heart!

This distinguished gentleman is almost 2 years old, neutered, and has the kind of coloring that makes you stop for a second look. But he’s got plenty of personality to go with that handsome face.

Hades is sweet, curious, and loves attention. He likes to know what you’re doing, what’s going on around him, and most importantly… whether you have time to give him some lovin.

And when it’s time to play? Bring out the string toys! Anything that flies, swings, or gives him the chance to reach out and snag it with those paws is an instant winner.

He should do well with kids and other pets, making him a pretty great candidate for all kinds of families.

He’s handsome. He’s playful. He’s affectionate. And he’s ready to find his people.

Come meet this sweet guy today!!
