Bubbles is ready for adoption! Please also see Reba's listing, as these two mares are bonded.

Bubbles is a 14.2 hh 13 year old champagne palomino, gaited, Tennessee Walking Horse mare who was seized with six other horses in a neglect case in Scott County, Kentucky. Under the care of Scott County Animal Care and Control, Bubbles was successfully treated, refed, and brought back to health, but Bubbles and the horses in her group were mostly unhandled for a year while their case was under investigation. Bubbles has a large, healed scar across her chest; the cause of the scar is unknown.

During evaluations, Bubbles has demonstrated the basics of roundpenning, lunging, yields the shoulders and haunches, basic ground work, and has enjoyed long grooming sessions and baths. In recent training sessions, Bubbles has quickly improved her ground manners and shows a willingness to learn. Under saddle, Bubbles has demonstrated a walking gait when asked for more forward. In riding evaluations, she has worked in a side pull and has been ridden in a snaffle but is very green under saddle and currently is only appropriate for advanced riders and trainers or would need training tune-up to be an appropriate mount for less experienced riders. Bubbles is very attached to Reba, a mare that was included in her rescue group. Bubbles has not been evaluated under saddle without Reba nearby. Due to a full year off of work, Bubbles will need to work with a knowledgeable trainer to reestablish riding basics and to advance her handle under saddle.

We would love to see Bubbles adopted to the same home as Reba. Bubbles is very social and enjoys meeting new people during tours. Under the tutelage of a professional or very experienced trainer/rider, Bubbles would likely enjoy a trail riding career.

Reba is an 14.2 hh 11 year old red roan, gaited, Tennessee Walking Horse mare who was seized with six other horses in a neglect case in Scott County, Kentucky. During evaluations, Reba has been extremely quiet and willing and has demonstrated excellent ground manners. Reba understands the basics of roundpenning, lunging, yields the shoulders and haunches, understands basic ground work, and has enjoyed long grooming sessions and baths. Reba stands quietly ties and in cross-ties and has been very relaxed and willing during farrier appointments and during veterinary evaluations. Under saddle, Reba has demonstrated a walking gait but has shown trot and canter in the roundpen and trot in-hand. In riding evaluations, she has worked in a rope halter/side pull and in a double-jointed snaffle. Reba has been very quiet and willing in ride evaluations and training sessions and prefers to gait when asked for more forward. However, she is very attached to Bubbles, a mare that was included in her rescue group. Reba has not been evaluated under saddle without Bubbles nearby. Due to a full year off of work, Reba will need to be reconditioned for under saddle work. Reba has started a reconditioning program at KHS but will need more in-hand work and slow redevelopment, especially with a knowledgeable gaited horse trainer to strengthen her gait under saddle and to get her fit for longer riding sessions.

We would love to see Reba adopted to the same home as Bubbles. Reba is calm and friendly and very talkative, especially when many people are around and during feeding time. She will be the social butterfly of any program and charms treats out of visitors during tours any chance she gets. Reba could enjoy a life of laid-back trail riding or work in a lesson program under a knowledgeable instructor.

Last week we had a great volunteer group from Allied Universal Security come out to help us paint a recently repaired fenceline! This group had a great time learning a little about KHS and Willow Hope Farm and meeting our home herd and a few adoptable horses; hen they got to work painting nearly 600 feet of fenceline in just a couple of hours!

Groups like this a are huge help to us at WHF and can mean a big difference when it comes to covering the cost of maintenance. It also helps that this group had an excellent sense of humor and a genuinely good time helping out at the farm 🤣

Our sweet guy Brutus went to his forever home in Pennsylvania last week! He arrived safely and his new family is already spoiling him outrageously.

Brutus was collected from the roads on an airport in Eastern Kentucky with several other horses after another horse in the area posed a risk to local traffic. When feral populations are at risk, or pose a risk to the public, they are collected for everyone's safety. Brutus is an example of some of the work we do in partnership with other organizations to get the best possible outcome for all involved.

We are so excited to see Brutus with his new family at a fabulous barn that is so excited to start their journey with him. Here's to a bring future for this sweet guy! 🎉

Clyde is a 14.1 hh, 3 year old gaited cremello grade gelding. This friendly guy is an in-your-pocket type who is curious and quick to learn. Clyde was collected as a feral horse rescued from the roads near an airport in Eastern Kentucky. He was collected as a stallion and spent a few months working with one of our training partners who established a solid start on groundwork. Since coming to the Kentucky Humane Society, Clyde has been gelded and is all healed up and ready to start his next chapter.

Clyde ties, knows basic ground work, yields his shoulders and haunches, backs, sends out on the lunge line, roundpens, has been introduced to a saddle pad and saddle, and has recently started roundpen work in a ba****ck pad with a cinch. So far, he hasn't batted an eye at new equipment or surroundings, and is curious and very calm in training sessions. Clyde has demonstrated a talent for gaited work but also trots and canters in the roundpen. He stands quietly for baths, farrier work, and minor treatments, and enjoys being groomed. He loaded and unloaded quietly for his trip from the trainer to KHS. Clyde has not been started under saddle or carried a rider at this point.

If you like the laid-back and friendly type, Clyde is your guy. He was collected young enough that he is developing like your average, human-friendly horse and will be easy to bring along based on his willing and curious attitude. We suspect he will mature to around 14.3 hh.

We were delighted to host the 7356th Veterinary Detachment, U.S. Army Reserve yesterday for an educational session on basic equine health and welfare and some quality horse time! This group of dedicated soldiers had excellent questions about how best to approach equines and what to look for when assessing wellness. They even brought rations (apples and carrots) for our home herd and adoptable horses, which were quickly devoured by some very happy horses 🥕
