šŸ—£ļø We’re down to about one week of dog and puppy food — and we need your help.

Our rescue pups depend on us for full bellies and healthy meals, and right now our shelves are getting low. If you’re able, please consider donating food to support the animals currently in our care. Every bag truly makes a difference.

We’ve made it easy with our Amazon Wishlist, where you can send food directly to us. Your generosity keeps our rescue going. 🐾

🐾 Fostering can be one of the most rewarding parts of rescue — but every now and then, there’s that one special pup who fits right into your home and your heart.

You look into their eyes, you feel their soul, and suddenly you realize…you’ve found your forever best friend.

We’re thrilled to share that Leo is officially a foster fail — and we couldn’t be happier for him or his wonderful forever family. Some matches are simply meant to be. 🐾

It’s the weekend, and we want to fill this page with JOY. Let’s have some fun!

If you’ve ever adopted, fostered, or volunteered with us, drop your favorite photo in the comments. Show us your glow‑ups, your couch potatoes, your chaos goblins, your heart‑melters — all of it.

Let’s shine a light on how fulfilling pet ownership can be and how fostering truly changes lives. Your photos remind our community what rescue is all about: love, second chances, and the families we build along the way.

Don’t forget! Magnolia Spay Neuter is bringing their mobile unit to Simmesport on June 11th — and there are 6 male cat spots left.

Listen…your male cat does not pay kitten support. He’s not building a legacy. He’s not running a dynasty. He is, however, absolutely ready to retire from the streetside dating scene.

Do him (and the neighborhood) a favor: save a life, prevent a litter, and give your boy the peaceful, drama‑free life he deserves.

We wanted to take a moment to reintroduce ourselves and share the heart behind what we do. We are Atchafalaya River Rescue (ARR); a small nonprofit comprised of six women and a handful of very special volunteers and fosters. Founded in January of 2021 in Simmesport, LA by Linda (founder) and Bridget (co-founder) after noticing the overwhelming need for rescue efforts in their hometown.

Simmesport is located in Central Louisiana — Avoyelles Parish. What many don’t realize is that our parish has no animal shelter, no animal control, and no affordable spay/neuter services available to the community (population 37,000 approx). That means every abandoned pet, every stray, every injured or neglected animal…has nowhere to go unless our community steps in.

ARR is foster based only; we do not have a shelter. Rescues are either at our homes or in the homes of our dedicated fosters. Our mission is to provide a temporary loving, safe environment to care for abandoned and unwanted animals in our community. Our ultimate goal is to find them loving forever homes whether through adoption or transport to larger rescue organizations. We strive to provide education to the community about the importance of vet care, heartworm and flea prevention, and spaying/neutering animals.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our faithful rescue partners, sponsors, and donors. Your compassion, generosity, and unwavering support make it possible for us to give animals the second chance they deserve.

If you’ve been with us since the beginning, thank you for standing by our mission and helping us create purpose every step of the way. If you’re new here, we’re grateful you’ve joined us as we advocate for animals in need. We rely on your help to raise awareness — whether through word of mouth or sharing our posts — to ensure the abandoned and unwanted are provided safety, care, and a future filled with hope.

There are no days off in animal rescue. Some Sunday mornings call for a foster team meet up to provide vaccines, food, and of course… toys! Keeping our rescues socialized is a fundamental step in helping them find their forever homes, and our fosters do an incredible job making that happen.

One of our fosters even brings her own dog, Bubba, who has become the best ā€œfoster dadā€ to these precious pups. His calm, friendly presence helps them learn confidence, manners, and how to be part of a pack.

We’re grateful for every foster, every volunteer, and every animal who reminds us why this work matters — even on a Sunday.

Being in animal rescue isn’t just about our team — it’s about what we can accomplish together as a community.

So much of this work happens beyond what anyone sees. It’s more than the photos, more than the updates, more than the moments we share online.

Here in Central Louisiana, Avoyelles Parish is full of independent, compassionate people who give their time, their homes, and their hearts to save the unwanted and the neglected. And outside our parish, there are even more who step in to help. We communicate, coordinate, and work behind the scenes like a giant moving puzzle — all for the animals who need us most.

Without animal control or a parish shelter, we rely on outside support. Our rescue partners help us provide lifesaving medical care, spay and neuter services, and the chance for every animal to find a forever home. Their impact is enormous.

And then there’s you — our followers, donors, fosters, transporters, and neighbors. We need you. We appreciate you. And we’re so grateful you’re here with us, standing beside the animals who depend on all of us to show up.

Together, we make rescue possible.
