With a heavy heart, I need to share some sad news. I recently had to make the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye to my beloved dog, Zhara. At just 6 years old, she was taken far too soon by serious illness, as complications from IBD and liver disease became too much for her to bear.

She was the heart of our home and the inspiration behind so much of what we do at Coach Krasno Dog Training and daycare. Through the time we had together, she was my constant companion always ready for the next adventure. We shared so many incredible experiences—from the time of her being cast as dog talent in a commercial to the meaningful work we started together training for lost pet search and rescue.

Even through her illness, she remained a loving pet and maintained a zest for life that truly stayed with her to her very last day. Her spirit has taught me so much about resilience and joy, and I will miss her presence by my side every single day. The daycare and our home will be eerily quiet from now on. Vinnie and Brownie will help ease our sorrow but we will truly miss her.

I wanted to share this with you personally, as many of you met her, heard me talk about her and probably heard me yell “quiet!’ more than once. Thank you for your kindness, patience, and understanding as we navigate this loss. I truly appreciate the community we have built together.

It’s coming up fast! Are you ready for the 4th of July?

The Fourth of July is almost here — and while we love the celebration, our dogs? Not so much.

Fireworks are one of the leading causes of lost dogs every year, and even pups who seem "totally fine" can be stressed by the noise and vibration. I’ve written about this more than once, and the advice is as important as ever:

✅ Don't bring your dog to fireworks displays, no matter how calm they usually are.
✅ Make sure their ID tags are on and secure.
✅ Set up a quiet, cozy space away from windows and exterior walls if home; or consider this a good time to go to that cabin in the woods?
✅ Learn to use counter conditioning to prevent a fearful response—loud noise = treat!
✅ Consider tools like Thundershirts, or — for dogs with serious noise phobias — talk to your vet about medication options ahead of time.

The time to plan is NOW, before the booms begin.

How do you handle the Fourth? Share your tips (and coping strategies!) in the comments.
