šŸ›‘ IMPORTANT NEWS REGARDING MICROCHIPS.

We’ve received a lot of messages from people asking us to post about the closure of a microchip company named SAVE THIS LIFE. To be honest, we’ve never heard of this company out of the thousands of chips we’ve scanned. It’s unlikely this will impact most pet owners in Simi Valley, as those chips are not commonly used on the west coast.

If you have a microchip number that starts with 991 or 900164, it’s likely you have a SAVE THIS LIFE microchip and you will need to register with a different company.

This a good reminder to make sure your pet’s microchip is registered properly, even if you don’t have a SAVE THIS LIFE microchip. That’s not as easy as it sounds so we are going to provide you with some information to help you.

You first need to know your pet’s microchip number. If you don’t have that, you can bring your pet to a vet or shelter and have them scanned for free.

Once you have your chip number, go to this website to find out if your chip is registered and what company it’s registered with. If your chip contains letters, do not put the letters in the search field.

Once you enter your chip info, it will tell you if your chip is registered and who with. If your chip is NOT registered, it will provide you with a list of companies that your chip could have come from. However, you do NOT have to register your pet’s chip with the company that it came from.

If your pet isn’t registered, choose any company to register your pet with and start the process. Be aware that every chip company is different and some are more difficult to deal with as a finder. You can even register with multiple companies. We do suggest you stay away from the free companies as they are not as user friendly for vets offices and it may be harder for the individual scanning your pet to access your informtion. We personally like HomeAgain as they have 24 hour service, are user friendly, and actually call the owners, not just send them an email, when their pet is found.

If you choose HomeAgain, you do NOT need to choose the monthly premium service. Just choose the one-time sign up fee which is $22.95.

If your chip IS registered, you still want to contact the company and confirm everything is correct and up to date. Errors happen, you may have moved or changed your phone number. Make sure your secondary contact is someone you would NOT be on vacation with.

Microchips do not contain owner information. They ONLY contain a number. Once we have that number, we then go to a database to retrieve information on where that chip is registered. We then need to contact the correct company to get the owner information.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask in the comments.

Parents: We are seeing a very high number of Kennel Cough cases in the community. We ask that you please monitor all symptoms your pup may be showing. We are truly trying to do our part, but need your help keeping it under control by limiting the pups that come into the facility, and making sure to send home anyone exhibiting symptoms home. If you think it is allergies or possibly flu/cold/kennel cough we ask that you please speak with your vet. Be sure before bringing you pups in for play or stay to update your emergency contacts and any other changes on your pups account. Thank you all for vour patience, we appreciate every single one of you!

Please protect our furry friends from fleas and ticks. These parasites not only cause discomfort and itching, but they can also transmit diseases and infest your home. Without proper treatment, they can make your four-legged family members (and other members of your family) downright miserable, and that’s nothing no loving animal owner wants! We ask that you treat your pets monthly or as directed by your treatment choice, this is a requirement for our facility. If staff notices excessive scratching, fleas, flea dirt, and/or ticks your pup or cat will be turned away or sent home.
