Most people think obedience is just about teaching a dog what TO DO.

The real magic happens when you teach them what NOT to do.

This is Uni demonstrating impulse control before being released to do her favorite thing in the world-run free on the golf course.

She knows exactly what’s coming.

She wants it!

She is excited about it!

And she still waits patiently until she hears her release cue: “FREE”

Training isn’t about restriction and control.

Training is about COMMUNICATION and EARNED FREEDOM.

Look how happy she is!

The more impulse control your dog has, the more freedom they can safely enjoy.

Uni is 2.5 years old now, but this process started when she was a puppy and has been practiced consistently ever since.

Puppies are hard. Do it right and Dogs are easy!

😂😂

I had a phone call a couple months ago from a positive reinforcement only trainer of whom I won't name, and she bi***ed me out for not being a positive reinforcement only trainer. This is literally what I said to her LOL... I also added to the conversation that, it's because of you "ONLY" people...is the reason why I'm booked out until mid September. So keep doing what you guys do :-) She then called me an a****** and hung up LOL

This is why I introduce recall at eight weeks old.

The first clip is Puppy Magnum learning the foundation of “come” with my son Jack using the hand signal and making it a great event when Magnum comes over and sits in front of him.

No pressure.
No confusion.
Just clarity, excitement, and repetition.

Fast forward five years…

Now Magnum is responding to “sit”, “down” and “come” from 100 yards away before sprinting back and sitting directly in front of me - tail wagging the entire journey.

That type of recall doesn’t happen by accident.

It starts early.
It gets practiced often.
And it gets proof through years of real world distractions.

Recall is the most important thing I teach.

Because freedom has to be earned.

Puppies are hard. Do it right and dogs are easy!

This is 20 week old Leah hearing the “come” command for the very first time.

Before this moment, we practiced the hand signal and built value into the behavior by making it a great event every time Leah came over and sat in front of Susan.

Now the voice command gets introduced.

Notice:
•the enthusiasm
• the tail wagging
•the speed
•the sit in front of Susan

This is step 2 in building great recall.

Not through pressure .
Through clarity, repetition, and positive association.

We’re introducing this in Susan‘s garage because new behaviors should first be taught in a low distraction environment before being proofed in the real world.

And Susan and Leah nail it!

Puppies are hard. Do it right and dogs are easy!
